This video brings you through the life of James Stephens. Stephens founded the Irish Republican Brotherhood, which in the U.S. became known as the Fenian Brotherhood. The IRB would later be the organisers of the 1916 Easter Rising.

"A missing piece of the puzzle" My great great grandfather was the captain of the state ship Catalpa which gave chase to Fenian Irish political prisoner's aboard a whaling ship in what was the first jail break recorded in Western Australia from the Round House prison, a converted whaling station and first building built in the colony, he was reprimanded for not catching the whaling ship and blowing it out of the waters, as his orders stated in what was a far superior and cannon armed vessel to that of the U.S whaler, in recent years letter's have emerged between the captain of Catalpa and the Fenians and revealed a lifelong friendship between the two. ( My Irish ancestry can be traced back on both sides of the family over 400 years to County Clare where records end due to fires) Kim Torpy nee Congdon 💫🙏💞

@johnnotrealname8168
@johnnotrealname8168 6 ай бұрын
@@genevievedolan1288Not really. They failed because they constantly did not have popular support. 1798 for example was primarily a bunch of presbyterians with a dubious view of Catholicism whilst the British government was willing to concede Catholic Emancipation with Union. Most of them were led by protestants which did not make it exactly popular.

@@johnnotrealname8168 yes, it is very complicated, more than my comment suggested, mostly I just wanted to get away from the sometimes thinly veiled attitude that Irish rebellions were almost comic if not completely pathetic in their constant failings. After all the republic exists.

Incredible video.. Davy.. the ethereal beginning is epic.. the bird song.. the dynamic background music., the poignant silence.. awesome way to begin a video.. And as you are walking.. showing the house where James Stephens was born.. was haunting as well as historic.. This video literally brought on the goosebumps.. This man worked very hard .. and things just seemed to work against him.. his life was sad.. especially at the end .. Lesson learned.. maybe he didn’t do everything he wanted to.. but he did what he could.. he did his best.. Btw.. must have been grand to know the school you went to was attended by many Irish heroes.. This is an extremely excellent video.. one of your best, I would say.. you indeed have a gift in videography.. thank you for all the hard work in making this.. your work.. and you.. are much admired and appreciated by us🌹☘️ Jen999💜💙

Thank you for making this video. I appreciate learning the lessons of the past. I am an interested " historian" of sorts, who's been working on never before read, stash of Fenian Brotherhood letters for the past 3 years. I have Just finished transcribing all 144 of them. I would like to go back through and see if I can not find anything that matches the dates you mentioned. I have letters from him, and I have an according of him in America. Are you familiar with the great Irish fair? It was one of the most successes of it's time, and raised over 50,000.00 dollars. James Stephens worked along side the Deputy Chief (Henry O'Clarence McCarthy) of the FB in America. I look forward to anymore history you have to share from this era.

Just a comment on why Irishmen in the US got involved with the civil war here. At the 5:40 mark you mentioned a couple of theories. The actual fact is that the Confederacy instituted the draft in 1862, followed by the Union in 1863. The Irish in NYC engaged in one of the biggest riots in the city's history. They did this because, as usual, the more wealthy families could purchase a proxy to go in their stead. After the war, Tammany Hall turned into one of the most corrupt governments in NY. Google Boss Tweed for that info. I love your videos by the way❤

Each to their own. Ireland was only ever held in the Union at the point of a sword, musket, gun and cannon. If Scotland had kept control of its North Sea oil revenues instead of westminister it would be sitting on a sovereign wealth fund the size of Norways by now. Also a million people were let strave to death in Ireland from 1845-52 while Britian was one of the of most industrialised and wealthy countries in the world at the time. By late 1700s 95% of the arable land in Ireland was in the hands of the British while the natives were pushed into serfdom by the penal laws.

The recent surge in the U.S. housing market, marked by home builders liquidating their stock and a significant increase in new homes for sale, indicates a potential shift in market dynamics. This situation, highlighted by a 12.2% drop in new home sales and a decrease in median sales prices to $434,700, coupled with a substantial rise in housing inventory, suggests a possible cooling off in the real estate market. This development could impact financial investments in real estate, presenting both opportunities and risks, and underscores the importance of diversification, such as considering cryptocurrencies, which offer liquidity and a different risk profile compared to traditional markets like real estate...Amidst this, the insights of a knowledgeable guide like that of Evelyn Infurna can be crucial. Her expertise in navigating the nuances of trading has been the key for Me understanding and making the most of these emerging financial trends.
