In this video, you'll find out that my lifestyle as a polyglot has allowed me to learn, speak, and maintain more than 13 languages without having to sacrifice the best parts of my life: my friends, my family, my hobbies, and more.
Apart from that, I learned all languages in my hometown. That's because ultimately, what matters the most is not where you learn a language but how you live your life to learn that language and the persons you decide to surround yourself with.
Last but not least, I will share with you a little trick on how to divide your apartment into multiple language islands that will allow you to practice every language more effectively.

Great video. But I need to point out the fact that in an European countries is much more easy to find foreign to talk. When it comes to South America or other areas, it’s turns more difficult to find native speakers of a target language. However, I do believe that is not mandatory live in the country to learn it’s language.

*youtube is trash* lol, I just saw that. Who do you think you are to criticize people’s language proficiency? A TOEFL grader? I made mistakes above, although I wasn’t trying to write an essay nor an email. You might be some European frustrated of not being capable of learning languages as you would like.

I’ve never spoken to an actual native in any of the languages I’ve learned throughout my life, not even english lol (only a couple of times) just read and listen, there’s tons of material here on KZbin, you really don’t have to speak with natives to learn a language, it’s all about loving learning them.

This is so true that you don't have to live in a foreign country to learn a language. By experience, and after having lived in 11 countries in 9 years, I could only learn local languages which grammar i knew already before i moved. Everywhere I've lived without prior knowledge, i could NEVER learn a single sentence. Moving with prior knowledge helps you build confidence in yourself your knowledge tricks you into thinking that you do speak the language. When you don't know anything about the target language, you purely end up saying "sorry i don't speak x...do you speak English?" All the time ..

I am 15 and I’m fluent in 3 languages . I’ve been interested in learning languages for a year now and I always do in my free time . Most people in my age group (or younger) tell me that it’s useless and boring . “ why are you learning french you’re never going to use it” the only people who actually are impressed are people who are older then me . I watch videos like these all the time and I hope that I can be like these amazing polyglots when I’m older it’s my dream .

@@hwaansswaanh3511 Awesome! Beautiful combination -- love what you do and wish i could speak some of those amazing languages -- to read Tolstoy in Ruusian, the Kabbalah in Hebrew, Khalil Gibran in Arabic..! Keep it up! I grew up bilingual in Bolivia -- English and Spanish, German in high school (still not fluent though my mother was Austrian), and recently lived over a year in Brazil where i improved my Portuguese substantially (quite similar to Spanish). Besides German, i understand and have studied some French, Quechua, and Mandarin in school / academies / grad school. On my own, i've tried (and am currently investing some time & effort to improve German and French, and learn/consolidate basic conversational Swedish and Italian (dated a Swedish woman for almost 3 years and have several lovely Italian friends). Because of yoga, philosophy and my overall work, i also love exploring words, etymologies, and translations in diverse languages, especially Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, and Hebrew. Wish i had many more years and much more bandwidth, memory, time, and resources to learn many languages, travel far & wide, and interact with people from many cultures ... I am happy there are many people doing this, each in their own way. In the age of global communication technologies and rising 'artificial' and 'synthetic' intelligence, upgrading individual and collective HUMAN INTELLIGENCE -- and improving HUMAN COMMMUNICATION between people of all backgrounds -- are two beautiful, useful, and noble goals to pursue. ¡Hugs from Cochabamba!

@@leonstenutz6003 If you want to learn languages, you will succeed, because you love what you do, and if you love a job, you will master it. Indeed, I respect people like you who love to diversify languages and learn a lot of them. I also see and notice that languages control my personality, because when I speak my mother tongue Arabic, I feel that I It's normal, but when I learn German, for example, I feel smart or something like that 😅, and when I speak Russian I feel cheerful, and when I speak Hebrew I feel wise.... I don't know why, but languages have a strong influence on a person's personality according to the personalities of the speakers of that language, I know my words may sound strange. My friend, you still have time to learn all these languages, because it is not too late, try to develop your languages, and when you finish them, learn new languages, so that you do not feel empty. You just have to be good at organizing time, and you have to love what you do. I wish you a good day and I would like you to learn all the languages that you like.

Me fui tres meses a Italia, a trabajar. Y hace unos meses me he mudado a Escocia, con casi 40 años. Hice mi examen y me mudé. Me da mucha verguenza mi inglés.

Luca is obviously amazing and I have extremely high respect for him as I am still reaching hard to master my first non native language (I'm from the US but writing this in Brazil). But, one thing that I see clearly in this video is that learning languages is his job. His entire day and life structure is based on language exposure. Although that is great, that is not the world that most of us live in. Although I am currently getting 24 hour exposure at the moment because I have decided to make my 10th month long trip to Brazil, when I return to my home the reality of life returns with me. I simply can't study language 24 hours a day and structure my entire world around it. My 45 minutes per day on my treadmill reading content is about all that I have in addition to texting my non English speaking Brazilian fiance daily. The comprehensible input tool that I am currently using (LingQ) is certainly delivering results but I am following this closely to hopefully find techniques that can enhance my progress more, but only within that same 45 minute per day window that I have allocated. Clearly Luca has the ability to absorb languages but how much of this can be applied to someone who simply cannot make learning languages their job?

May I ask you for how long you've been using LingQ for and your impressions of it? I've tried the trial a little bit for French but unfortunately the trial is extremely short.

Thanks for the comment =) I think that in order to be able to speak multilingual languages at a high level, it is important to live a polyglot lifestyle because while learning new languages becomes easier, maintaining them becomes a progressively arduous challenge. Having said that, everyone is different and if you can speak integrate ONE foreign language into your life, well, that's also fantastic =)

The second language is the hardest because you still try to find tricks that works for you. I'm working on my third now and I'm much much more effective because I already know how I wish to do this. My first tip is to try your best to not connect new words to the first language (this means this) but rather do your best to see it as a name rather than a word. Like the name of this basket is korg because if you attach it like names you can later access the word with less effort rather than translate every word and sentence in your mind like this: I want to say basket, basket meeeeaaaans.... korg. What was big again? Instead with a name you can know many faces with the name Anna or opposite with many names to one face (or in this case picture or item). That is the second tip, to think in pictures instead of words the best you can. Third tip, dont try to cram with too much intent; just meet new words to be aware of it when you encounter it and then it will stick with emotion and context later. Next; picture a cow or horse in a field and it is hungry. If it tries to graze the whole field at once it will just wander around getting stressed and same is with vocabulary. Try to pick the areas most interesting and relevant to you first, there is plenty of time to get around to the rest later. When we are babies we learn by hearing things with repetition and emotion so if you hear something enough it will stick automatically. Example; think of a commercial jingle. You can repeat or recognize tons of them just by repetition and zero effort. :) If we try too hard we use a different part of the brain to process and analyze but the language you kind of just can relax and let it record whatever. :) Context does a lot too. If you would walk in to a pharmacy and only knew 1 word hurt or ow you could point to where it hurt and still get help. Other words would just be frosting on the cake so don't stress too much over frosting. Relax and have fun!

I would generally consider my English not to be very bad. I study the language and have been studying at a boarding school for a certain time. Now I have to say that when I examine your language skills, I see that you think in the language, have totally taken it and subconsciously use it. I would love to get to that point. My English meets the standards of C1 with a tendency towards C2. To gain more fluidity and confidence with the language I would very much like to ask for your advice. Perhaps you can reflect on what has helped you and help you to use English at the level of speaking and writing. Thank you very much, I appreciate it. What I probably need is a bit more time of exposure to the language) My brain and consciousnesses simply need more time to be completely accustomed to the language i am learning. Any advice on how to reach this?

Hello Luca, I've bumped into your videos quite recently and I totally agree with you when you emphasize the importance of intonation. I've been speaking English for ages, I'm fluent, I use contractions and reductions all the time, I'm familiar with different English accents, but my problem is still understanding the dialogues in films. Any tips about my problem?

I really admire Luca, but I think it's easy to say that it isn't necessary to live abroad in order to learn a language well, when you live in a multicultural city like Rome. If Luca would live in a small town he would ultimately move, abroad or in a major city.

It's only a matter of time... You don't start from scratch everytime you learn a language. Some languages have the same structure, same kind of patterns that you already manage and it's not that hard after a time. In my humble opinion, it's starting to get way much easier when starting your 4th language or 5th language :)

@Luca Lampariello: I like your quote a lot: "languages cannot be taught, they can only be learned." I agree and in the same moment I like to give a shout-out with the words of Maria Montessori: "Help me do it myself!" "aiutami a farlo da solo!" That's the teachers job. I hope one day our school systems are focussing on individual personal development rather than on a school system which was build up on values of the industrial revolution and soldier academies. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZzTmGCii7x_mKc
