Benny never owned a car. He did his own shopping at a local market. His sketches were extremely funny, talented. He had many fans all over the world and was watched by millions. I'd call him a success in every respect. .

I was born in Teddington. My mum was his cleaner for a few years. Said he was a lovely man but wish he had someone in his life. Used to give her extra money at christmas to help with the other four of us. My mum was amazing as she worked three jobs and brought us up on her own. Benny Hill was kind and i think people should remember him for stuff other than his show.

Many years ago living down Mexico Way, a lady friend asked me to accompany her as she had to take her kids to the hospital for various reasons. In the waiting room, a TV set was hooked up to a VHS system and it would play Benny Hill tapes throughout. They weren't even dubbed in Spanish. Yet the patients were able to sit and watch and laugh at all the skits and shows. Even other children understood and laughed along as well. Lady friend said that the doctors and nurses in Mexican hospitals know that Laughter is the Best Medicine. And they played comedies in the waiting rooms to put people in a good mood, and regardless of what was ailing them, they were receptive to their treatments and healed up faster. I joined her a few times at the hospital for various reasons. And I always thought why didn't waiting rooms in the States do something like that?! Instead, I've seen where they just play the local channels and show the regular bullshit that they can get at home. I know from my travels that the Mexicans and Benny Hill had it right all along! Thanks for the many years of laughter and enjoyment, Old Chap! You've left the world a better place for you being in it. Amen. 😁

I am a child of 80's so like most of the children in those years I grew up with hilarious Benny Hill's Show and I loved it every moment of the show. Benny Hill was a guy like who is so beyond his era and started something totally new for our generation. I owe Benny a lot because he saved me from lots of sorrowful days and still he is. I wanted to learn his life and came across this documentary so I salute and appreciate you for this video production which made me learn his life. Rest in Peace Benny, we all still and will love you.

Someone at work organised a trip for the staff to see The Benny Hill Show being made at Teddington. It was one big laugh but what we remember most was when Jackie Wright ( the little bald bloke) kept forgetting his lines in one sketch. After about 6 attempts he eventually got the lines correct, and Benny just saw the funny side of it.He was so patient with Jackie, and never became annoyed, just a good decent bloke not a pampered prima donna type at all,as many would have become with his success.

I've been a fan of Benny for years. I used to watch his shows during the overnight hours on the weekends. I have VHS tapes that I won't part with even though I no longer have a VCR and I have DVD's of his shows but I watch him on-line more and more. He didn't have a "sad life" and I don't think he led a controversial life. He may have been enigmatic to the media because he didn't fit their expectations or fit their norms of a "celebrity" but when I hear the phrase "controversial life" I tend to think of someone that led a wild, alcoholic or drugged up existence and mad at the world. I've seen a lot of Benny Hill documentaries on the internet and read a lot of things on-line from those who worked with and for him and I never got any impression that he had a sad life or one that was even controversial. I guess because he remained unmarried and didn't live extravagantly the gossipy stories and rumors fill the gaps where reality and facts don't exist.

I saw reruns of him as a kid in the late '70's and his antics was hilarious and legendary. It was a tragedy and a sad story of a man that was first told he wasn't funny to putting his heart into what he loved the most ... To make people laugh 😂 RIP Benny Hill.

@@TalesofFameandFate It was said that Benny Hill proposed twice (I think in the 1960s) but was turned down on both occasions by two women who didn't love him back. Perhaps it's for the best that his considerable fortune (his estimated worth was about £7.5M, close to $10M in 1992) went to his nieces rather than to some gold digger, later in life.

Stayed up many a night late as kids just to watch Benny hill. I’ll never forget I had my next door neighbor and best friend , Brent come over for a sleep over just so we could watch Benny Hill when he came on really late. I was startled awake by the silly kazoo music and immediately shook my buddy Brent awake to watch Benny Hill but he was so sound asleep he could barely open his eyes for a second. I shook him again and he tried to force his eyes open but they rolled back in his head and he hit the pillow on the living room floor and was out again. So I watched the show myself then turned off the tv and went to sleep. I woke up to a weird plastic sound and found my buddy Brent sleep walking and was pissing in a hallway closet on a dress covered in plastic. I grabbed him and shook him but his eyes were closed and he was still pissing away. At this time my Mom woke up and started yelling WTH is gojng on….Kt was obvious Brent was still sleep pissing so we ushered him to the toilet. But he was pretty much done at that point so we laid him back down and cleaned up the mess. The whole time we were ushering Brent to the bathroom he kept saying “When’s Benny …when’s Benny”…..lol.

One thing this video left out was that not a single one of his female co-workers thought he was sexist or creepy. They genuinely adored him. The greatest comedian in the history of your planet. Most surprised, even allowing for the PC brigade, that UK TV is not showing his episodes during Covid 19. They would better the viewing figures of all other channels and introduce him to our younger generations who hate the PC brigade as much as old sods like me. Not all his work was smutty. He had some brilliant sketches that had no sexual innuendo whatsoever, and some that could touch your heart, whilst still making you laugh. He was a genius and shall never be matched, never mind bettered. Quite simply, the greatest.

I'm from New Orleans. My stepdad was a New Orleanian of Sicilian origin, with a really deadpan sense of humor. One night when I was 13 or so (1982) he and I were watching Benny Hill on TV, and he mentioned to me really casually: "You realize that Benny Hill's originally American, right?" Of course I doubted it, but he said it so calmly and straightforwardly. He went on to tell me that Benny Hill was originally from New Orleans and his real name was Val Marsiglia, and that he got famous in the UK during and after the war, originally as part of the USO. He had me going for a good 20-30 minutes, till finally he couldn't take it and burst out laughing.

Lol) but his comedy has been engrained in me ever since and to this day I still steal some of his jokes and prank others as he did. As an accomplished sax player, I can even play Yackety Sax and saw Boots Randolph in concert. All because of The Benny Hill Show. RIP man.

The Benny Hill Show aired prime time 8pm on the ITV channel here in Britain with around 15 to 17 million watching each week. The peak of his show was from 1971 to 1981.

Sadly Teddington Studios have been demolished now, making way for new apartments. Teddington Studios had been there for decades. Thames Television took over the complex in 1968 when they were created as an ITV company, and remained there until Thames Television ended on December 31st 1992. In 1993 Teddington continued as an independent studio complex.

Not a sad life. He lived the way he wanted to. Watched all over the world and could care less about stardom. What is sad is that we can not see the shows anymore. Just little bits here. Asked anyone that worked with him and the will tell you that he was a gentleman always when dealing with people. As a teenager watched the show with my parents. We all laughed. Today they will take your child away and put you in jail. RIP. The people around the world still love you.

@@PenDragonsPig But Thames TV is in London, which is the biggest city in Europe, and the Thames is the major river running through it. Pronouncing that Thames phonetically and not like Tems is a major blunder. It would be like pronouncing the Seine in Paris as Sine, when it should be like Sane. The narrator must be from Lost Angels.

@@alunpalmer7337 I know what Thames TV was, I know where London is, I know where the River Thames is, I know where the Thames River is, I know where Paris is, I know where the Seine flows, I know how to pronounce them all, I even know where Los Angeles is and how to spell or pronounce that. Benny Hill was not funny- his work was more stupid than risqué.

Comedy probably the most rewarding profession out there. As long as you are on top. When you peak your carrier it's downhill from there. On the way up you constantly try to out do yourself untill you peak out. Finding out you reached your limit and boom. Most comedians private lives are sad tradegies worthy of many tears in the end. Robin Williams, John Belushi, Andy Kaufman, Chris Farley and Benny Hill. All died too early and with a really tragic story behind their deaths.

This was a great documentary... Benny Hill was bloody brilliant! My old man and I were just watching an old VHS tape of 'The Benny Hill Show' last night, he still makes us laugh, even though we've watched it heaps. We've got a couple of his 'best of' shows on VHS as well... I never know much about his life, I do remember hearing about his grave being robbed, or remember seeing stuff on the news about it... But yeah, it's a real shame about how he was given the arse from TV, I guess most work places don't really care about anything, except how much money they're making...
