It has actually been confirmed that Ollivander did marry and have two children. Though one of his children is confirmed to die before Garrick himself does.

Ollivander always struck me as (what would be in D&D classification) a 'True Neutral' alignment. While there was right and wrong, he seemed to think good and evil were theoretical concepts. Indeed, his life's pursuit is the academic exercise of the magical chemistry between wands and wizards, and how the varying interactions between them could create widely varying permutations in both power and style of magic. The side effects of these demonstrations of magic and power, that is, acts of good or evil, we're just that - side effects, and while laudable or regrettable, were secondary to the experiment of wand-wizard interaction. He's a wonderfully 'gray' character in the stories.

This was very interesting. Especially as he is one of my favorite characters. Personally, I like to think that once he recovered he returned to his shop. I do not think he didn't have a clear view of right and wrong or a passion for power. I think that he was simply more fascinated by what a wand could do in conjunction with the owner and this may have made him seem detached from good and evil.

Well depends on how you define powerful. His knowledge about wandlore was unrivalled & so was his skill in wand making. Even his personal notes are used as a reference by others in this line of profession. And I am not sure but I think it says on pottermore that he was also a master duelist, mainly because of his talent in identifying the strengths & weaknesses of his opponent's wand

awesometacular True but you just can’t forge a good battle weapon if you don’t know even the basics of how to use it. This should apply to Harry Potter’s world too, Olivander was a great battle mage in fact (I would say on the level of Sirius).

I never expected to ask a serious question on one of these videos. At about 3:15 there is a drawing of Voldemort's wand. It has an odd handle and is said to be made of yew. Does this shape have magical significance in tradition or folklore? I have seen this shape before in an ancient document and believe that drawing was labelled "talonar", the hooked end drawn as the ankle -- talus --and clawed foot of a bird. It is possible the cartoonist copied from the same source I have seen. That particularancient page seems to define European yew trees. I would be very grateful for any answers. A quick search on yew trees and Voldemort's wand seems to indicate the wand is simply an artistic rendering made to look like a bone. On the other hand, I know J.K. Rowling did a lot of research on mythology, magic, etc. She was also said to have had a lot of input on the films. Might she be behind the design? If so, is the yew connected in folklore to the ankle/foot/talons of a bird? I do not see that in sources but anything is possible. Does the word "talonar", "talon-ar" have meaning? The "ar" may simply be a suffix. Talon in Latin means "talus" so it is an apt description of the picture I have seen.

You know considering how important Wands are to wizards how come wand makers aren’t ROLLING in gold? Also having Harry and Tom wands share a core is the first moment of foreshadowing of the twist of Harry being a Horcrux. There are a few more subtle ones if you look hard enough.

People have asked why Fawks feathers chose Voldimort but I think that Hawks respected Dumbledor's old ambition and chose Harry largely due to the horcrux thing (or because Harry is similar to the other side of Dumbledor, that would work too).

It's good to see the new thumbnails, as it shows that you've found your love for the Harry Potter content again, but I've got to say that John Hurt would be a terrible casting for Helga Hufflepuff. Not only has he already been cast as a character, he's also a skinny grey haired man... So I don't think that quite fits the description for the Hufflepuff founder

Since this is a video on ollivander why not talk about wands? Which of these four have the strongest wand (I am not talking about the elder wand): Albus Dumbledore: he is the greatest wizard for generations. He is known for his power,knowledge, uses of dragon blood and many other inventions and discoveries. He is most famous for the defeat of the dark wizard grindleward who had the elder wand during the duel. It was perhaps the greatest duel ever. To overcome the power of the elder wand one needs a wand of unusual capacity. Considering his attachment to the Phoenix and his reputation as the greatest wizard we can assume that he had a Phoenix feather wand (the details of his first wand was not given anywhere) Bellatrix lestrange: she had a dragon heartstring wand and in DH we read that it is very loyal to her. Further she has one of the best cruciatis curse in the potterverse. She was defeated by Molly maybe because she was never using her own wand (correct me if I am wrong I think Hermione had it at that time). Using the wand she managed to defeat powerful wizards and aurors like the longbottoms, tonks and sirius black. Draco malfoy: his wand was used to defeat the elder wand twice. Once he disarmed Dumbledore (he was weakened by the hand curse and the cave potion) and Harry used it to beat voldy in the final battle where the latter was using the elder wand. Not only that he even managed to do exceedingly well in his Hogwarts days in many subjects (second only to Hermione). Harry potter: he has a Phoenix feather wand which are supposed to be rare and powerful . He has the strongest patronus in his batch and was an adept duellist and the best at DADA in his year. He has defeated lord voldemort many times with that wand and most notably in the gof duel where there was that priori incantautm (sorry for the spelling) there were other death eaters in the scene but still he managed to duel voldemort and escape with Cedric's body (it was like 4 or 5 on 1 voldemort and death eaters vs Harry). He has defeated many a death eater and wizard with this wand.

But i think i should have included Umbridge wand as well I think ollivander said that Umbridge had an unusually short wand (8 inches) which represents a terrible moral compass and is very good for hexes and curses.
@varunkaushik27326 жыл бұрын
Ayush Banerjee I just assumed that its a Phoenix feather wand. It is not mentioned anywhere. The reason for my assumption is that Dumbledore has a connection with the Phoenix bird, he defeated grindleward who had the elder wand at that time and was very adept and powerful at magic which all point towards the fact that he might have had a Phoenix feather wand.
