In 1971 after ten years of seemingly disappearing and shortly before the first wizarding war started he returned to hogwarts. Hopefully to get the job for the defence against the dark arts to help him recruit his army. But dumbledore refused him the job and Voldemort put a curse on the job. Making sure that no one could be the defence against the dark arts teacher for more than one school year. Voldemort before leaving hogwarts hid the diadem one of his horcruxes in the room of requirement. Thinking that no one would find it only for harry to find and destroy it decades later.

in the sixth book, in chapter 2 Snape himself answered this question when he was interrogated by Bella, Snape answered ‘He was in a pitiable condition, very weak, sharing the body of a mediocre wizard. He did not dare reveal himself to a former ally if that ally might turn him over to Dumbledore or the Ministry. I deeply regret that he did not trust me. He would have returned to power three years sooner. As it was, I saw only greedy and unworthy Quirrell attempting to steal the Stone and, I admit, I did all I could to thwart him.’

I feel bad for Quirrel. He just wanted to quit being treated like he was nothing but a joke. Not only was he bullied by his classmates, but he was also bullied by his own students essentially. He wanted to prove everyone wrong but went about it the wrong way and ended up getting taken over by Voldemort.

Actually in the books, Quirrell shook Harry's hand in the leaky cauldron. It was after Quirrell failed to steal the stone from Gringotts, that he latched onto him to keep a closer look.

After reading and rereading that chapter where Quirrel and Harry fight for the stone, Quirrell is very much alive (but blistered) and Harry was concerned he had lost the stone. Dumbledore calms his fears, and says he got there "just in time " fearing Harry was dead. Quirrell is referred to as "left to die" by Dumbledore, but never actually is said to have DIED. Its presumed, but never stated; there is no reference to a funeral, burial, or even regret/mourning by his fellow teachers. I propose that physical recovery (perhaps not mental) might have occurred after Voldemort left Quirrell as likely as it might have killed him. So, in the books themselves, Quirrell might still be alive, likely in St. Mungos, a shell of himself.

I just realized a glaring plot hole and it should be something you want to do a video about. When Voldemort returned at the end of the 4th book, why did he still think Snape was his? He should have realized back in book 1 that Snape went to Dumbledore's side. Why didn't he tell Quirrell to reveal the back of his head to Snape?

This is explained in the books bellatrix actually asks Snape why he didn't help quirrel and Snape tells her that he thought quirrel was acting on his own and that the dark lord didn't reveal himself to him because he thought Snape was a traitor and didn't want to take the risk that he would give him up to dumbledore or kill him in his weakened state. As Snape tells bellatrix he had to convince the dark lord later that he was still loyal after the events of book 4

Professor Quirrell was not replaced by another wizard for muggle studies he was replaced by charity Burbage who was later killed by Voldemort. I'm pretty sure I spelled charity Burbage wrong but whatever.
