Actually, Schlitzie was VERY well taken care of for the day. Many people like him were locked up in draconian institutions, because it was the norm. When you realize how new psychology is in the field of medicine, and under standing of mental defects is even newer, Schlitzie really didn't have a bad life, and there are well documented instances of him being happy and affectionate.

I know the case of a lady who died and her daughter could not afford a headstone. Some years later, the dead lady's grand daughter was able to buy one and took her mother to the cemetery so she could see the headstone. The mother was very surprised and moved . To her, the headstone was important. As for the daughter, even though she loved her grandmother deeply, she didn't care about headstones, just did it to make her mother happy.

Despite his beautiful and innocent smile he had such a tough life. No one to give him a hug. While so called normal people have fake smile still leading a great life. Wonder why innocent people always suffer? The life he enjoyed with the people of the circus, did not even gave a name on the grave.... Selfish people....
