I saw a momma today with about 12 ducklings at an old canal. I never saw one of these birds before. Fascinating!

I've noticed a male/female pair and also a single male swimming in our pond every evening for the last few weeks beginning at the end of December. I love watching them swim around and dive. Great video!

Good one. I see some of these almost every day during the winter here in Denver. They are my favorite ducks to watch. Thank you for sharing this great video. I learned many things.

Great video. I am a duck stamp artist. I am placing four Duck Boxes this weekend. Hoping for Wood Ducks and Hooded Mergansers both!

Wonderful video! Thanks for the info and great photos! I just started birding a few weeks ago and happened to spot a pair of Hooded Mergansers a few days ago in Northern North Dakota.

I take walks at a nearby pond. There are 6 ducks someone bought from the Tractor supply store and placed in this pond. They can't fly off. Recently I saw a baby duck that sort of hung out with them, but not always. I noticed it would dive under the water and stay for a long time. After about two weeks a small flock of hooded mergansers appeared. I believe this lone baby duck is a female hooded merganser. I hope so at least because I no longer see the lone baby duck. This group of hooded mergancers won't let me get close enough to get a good look through my binoclors. When I get on one side of the pond they swim to the other side.
