Wow, Texas seriously lets you retake a test you failed? Doesn't work that way in Colorado. Fail a test out here? Then that's it - that score is locked in and will count against you for the rest of the quarter. You can't retake it. The only way you can retake a test is if you are literally not in school for whatever reason and have an excused absence - if you miss a test and have an unexcused absence? Then you get a zero.

I really hate people who go and criticize teachers like that. This video is a very accurate portrayel. I've just graduated from high school, and witnessed this happening quite a bit. As for those who try to mention the "perks", you should know how much is expected from them. Most of my teachers had to stay after school just to finish all the crap the school board madates from them, and try to give students extra help. And those who didn't had to take their work and finish it at home.

The problem is that current teaching methods do not encourage competition, so kids don't see any reason to excel. If you put the grades up where all kids could see how everyone in the class did, then they would have a much better reason to do well, because they wouldn't want their friends to think they were stupid. Kids like competition. That is how it was when I went to school.

Not realistic for the school district I am in. Not all, but some teachers take hour long or more lunches and also get many parent volunteers to cover recess duty for them. There is absolutely no tutoring offered. If your child has a question about any subject after school, it will be $50 for every 30 minutes of help or questions answered that they need.

I feel that there are many problems in the US education system. The biggest problems are:not enough time to teach American students, lack of parental involvement, and lack of good teachers. I feel that the best solution would be to eliminate or shorten summer vacation and use the extra time to teach, eliminate tenure (or at least make the process of firing a bad teacher easier), and parents should be more involved in their child's education. (Not all US teachers are bad, but some are.)

USA wide-let's do away with state testing. Class sizes are going up, my library teacher job was eliminated (such a novel idea in the age of information) because the state keeps ripping off money from school districts. Yet no one at the state level in CA offers discontinuing annual state testing, or at least have it every other year. Testing is too expensive for us at this point in time as the economy crashes. Yes indeed, do more and have students excel inspite of having no funding!

I am not bashing my teachers, I love them to death, but I feel that the Education system is also flawed.
