I lived in Barcelona my whole life and I'm so disconnected from all those small social initiatives. It feels like the city has become a theme park for visitors and not much else. I just live here among little bubbles I call familiar places, sorrounded by the rest of the city which is a decorative set I traverse each day feeling like an alien.

It both makes me happy and sad that it's always civil society who comes to the rescue, while politicians and decision makers seem to prioritise just profit for big corporations. As a Catalan, I have such a love-hate relationship with Barcelona. Great video!

I’m in awe of the passion, energy and ingenuity of the people. How do you flick that switch in people from apathy to enthusiasm?

I really appreciated this video. I feel like it discusses really well the reality of barcelona, both its positives and negatives. If anyone has any recommendations on further readings please let me know! (English, Spanish or Catalan is fine)

I bought a replica of a Chanel brooch for $20 to compare materials etc. The real brooch cost $800 and was made of the exact same materials - brass, synthetic pearls, glass. The other one is a $40 one kislux Backpack Replica - also works for Compare - I can't find any difference and still use it for the gym

When it comes to tourism, you cannot have your cake and eat it too. The city wants the mass tourism but without all of its problems, that's not possible. You have to choose and eventually limit the amount of visitors.

Barcelona has never wanted tourism. Tourism has grown without the support of its inhabitants. It is an invention of the global hotel industry and foreign investment funds taking advantage of the improvements (paid for by the taxes of the residents) that were made to the city.

Personally I disagree with the guy praising the urban fabric of Barceloneta. It's protected because of it's historical significance sure, and car-light, but good? Sunlight is severely lacking imo. If I had to single out one that's exceptionally good it's the new Superilla (superblock) spaces. Those few that have already been built are awesome. For the first time in my life, and after living in several countries, I see new spaces being created that are better than historical ones.

Really cool to see how Eixample has been transforming the last few years! I visited some years ago and it's exciting to see how similar 'Superblocks' are in concept to what we came up with back then. I really hope these types of urban design can be extended to a bigger scale, as the effect of these spaces are compounded when they aren't isolated.

Mass tourism is destroying beautiful Barcelona. Shame. I decided to quit the city in 2019.

I disagree with the architect Bravo. To wish for a city whose model would be La Barceloneta, is simply outrageous. And no gentifrication?. Its inhabitants are constantly in protests for it. Unbelievable snobbism typical of an elite architect. Can't imagine choosing him for this video. In fact I stopped watching it.
