I have a Light Phone and I like it very much. I am coming from 15 years of using iPhones and I was looking for a way to have a good, simple phone to carry day to day without all the distractions. I was happy to find that once I set aside my iPhone I was able to do quite well without it. The company has been very responsive with any issues I have had, which have not been serious. Overall my Light Phone has given me back a lot more time to do more worthwhile things than look at a screen for hours every day for no good reason.

I like the idea but I just don't understand it. If you want a phone without the distractions of social media, why not get a Nokia 105 feature phone or alternative? It's £15, with a 7 day battery life and does calls, texts and not much else - just like this phone. Why would anyone spend $200+ on a device that does the same but with a poorer experience and a battery that lasts not much more than a day?

From my experience - when I decided a smartphone wasn't for me anymore, I switched to a flip phone. I lasted about 8 months with it before I gave up and switched to a wisephone. The reason I gave up is because texting on a flip phone is really difficult now. When everyone had flip phones it was no big deal but now people primarily communicate via text and flip phones can't handle it. I was getting long texts that required long answers that took forever to type, group texts were coming in all jumbled in single text threads instead of grouped..etc. If someone wants to fully switch to a dumb phone, being able to text in the way people do in 2022 is important. Just being able to have a full keyboard and working group texts is super helpful to maintain the switch long term Just my two cents!

Having a phone like this in Norway would be a huge disadvantage, I believe the same is true for the whole of Scandinavia. We need banking apps to pay for a lot of stuff, like parking, coffee etc in fleemarkets and a bunch of other places.. Amusement parks also have their own apps for paying, with no optional payment solutions(not even cash, which is technically mandatory by law in norway), that turned out to be a rough weekend when i lossed my phone the day before going to Kristiansand dyrepark.. I'm not an advocate for the way we set up our society in Norway in terms of payment. We need a variety of payment options, including cash. Also many gyms only have phone verification (android or IOS) to enter gym. What I'm saying is this phone would limit life in many ways, I LOVE the idea of it, but Litephone is definitely not the way to go in Norway!!! Good Video, straight to point with an awesome host!

Great review. I really LOVE the idea of this phone but it's just a little bit too minimum for me. The battery life isn't good enough for so few features, USB-C feels like a must, it NEEDS a camera, and honestly I'd like to have email because some of my older family members only use email and won't text. I would buy it in a heartbeat if it had a version like that. I guess I just want a little more of a medium

Thanks for the video. Well done. My intention is to use it as a subsidiary phone and begin to practice not needing most of features other than the camera. :-) One of the things about the lights on it was quite disturbing was how high the EMF levels were. I’m not quite sure why that needs to be but it was 2 to 3 times high as my iPhone 11. So I always encourage people to never hold the phone to their head… Keep the phone away from their body as much as possible when it’s being used or even when it’s off. Turning it off and putting it in a EMF protective case or bag is Always a good idea…

The thing I don‘t understand. In my understanding the problem is not the smartphone. The problem is social media and unneccesary apps. I use an iPhone SE from 2020 and only installed the app for my gym, spotify and that‘s mainly it. No social media, no shooping apps and now I have a phone, that is fantastic to use without distracting me. And I bought the SE for less than a new light phone 2. So I really do not see any benefits at all with this device.

Not everyone has the self discipline to not download apps that distract them, especially since those apps are specifically designed to promote addiction. Kudos if you either have the discipline or if you were blessed to not be swept into the nets of those who monetize your attention. I do not see addiction as a weakness; there are billions of dollars and millions of people who's job it is to keep you engaged in the apps that are most distracting

The problem is that it consistently calls your attention even if you do all of that. It’s a matter of self control and discipline and you can work on this continuously but there’s this mental fatigue from constantly having to withhold yourself from this sort of satisfaction that has been normalized. I've never used a QR code in my life, and God willing, I never will. It has always struck me as laughably inefficient for a company to dump millions into designing a complex piece of image capture hardware and image code recognition software that users then have to carefully use at the correct distance and angle than to simply hand-type a url on a basic keyboard. Perhaps it has legitimate uses beyond convenience, but I have to imagine those uses only apply to a minority of users, and I think it's use is just a case of unquestioned adoption. But if you really stop and think about the steps involved to go from scratch to using QR codes, it really is absurd. You take a device meant for phone calls. You then jam a camera into that phone. You then install image recognition software onto the phone that can tap into the camera, and then further execute a command encoded an image you take a picture of.

Asking out of curiosity, not to be vicious. I just don't get this mindset. Traveling w/o GPS forces you to interact more with people, learn more, and retain more information-it betters you as a person. Photos-you really think snapping a picture in a bad situation will be a crucial solution that often? People didn't have smartphones for centuries. Why is the priority convenience rather than self-improvement? It does really disturb me that this is the standard mindset, that inconvenient = bad. I guess that phone already exists but the apps are optional. My setup is currently a dumbphone with a tablet. The tablet isn't so portable so I can't keep checking it. I treat WhatsApp as a mailbox rather than an instant messenger. If people want to contact me they soon learn to SMS or........shock horror....call me! 😉

@@timtube1663 but you need maps and banking etc on the go. Your solution is half way. I know all apps are optional on the phone but it's so easy to install you can't escape it. I just want the same phone with no social media whatsoever. No youtube, no facebook no instagram no Twitter, no tiktok etc

There are some launcher apps on android that turn your phone into something like this. You still have access to all your apps with options to limit or block them. There's also appblock and block site that work for smartphones and browser extensions. They block apps and websites with options like a blocking schedule and password protection to keep yourself honest. Personally, I'm trying to commit to those options first before trying a phone like this.

@@freegraceausthis is my problem and why I've finally decided I need a device like this in the new year. I've tried to be self-disciplined with my smartphone, but growing up with it, I always fail. Thing is, when I happen to go a day without touching it much, it's always a good day. I just need to make smartphone features & crutches an impossibility for myself.

I agree with others in that I wish there were a few more features, like Google Maps or Spotify. It would be a lot easier if I could integrate everything I have saved on these services. Camera would be nice too. Other than that, it's a great idea. I've tried to implement Screen Time on my iPhone, which basically doesn't work for me, and even if you delete social media apps off your phone, you can always re-download them when the desire is too strong. Having a phone like this where you LITERALLY can't install them in the first place would be ideal.

It doesn't have Google Maps precisely because it's designed not to have third-party software with tracking. People have gotten "used" to phones as digital omnitools, where all your technological needs are serves in a single device, but I'm becoming more and more convinced that separation of functionality is preferable. A phone should be a phone. A GPS should be a GPS. A camera should be a camera. The only upshot of having everything in a single device is ease and centrality of access. The downside, which is significantly greater, is twofold: for one, your phone knows nearly everything you're doing; for two, if you lose your phone or destroy it, and you don't immediately rush to shell out hundreds of dollars for another one, you lose everything. Your phone, your gps, your camera, your banking software, etc. I like knowing that if I drop my phone while away on vacation, I still have a TomTom and a camera, so I can keep enjoying my vacation and don't have to worry about getting a replacement until I return home.

@@maltdairy2164 Those are very good points. This is something that I guess my generation has taken as "the way to live" (i.e. smartphones and all the apps were becoming more universally used as I reached adulthood). There's a lot of social pressure to stay connected, especially when it involves certain industries such as arts and entertainment, which rely so much on who you know, self-promotion, and staying in the loop. It's exhausting.
