Well depends on how that is presented. We need to be taught that we were saved from our guilty sin. But I will say any pastor too focused on sin and the law and I’m out of there. That’s Judaism and not Christianity. Jesus defeats sin! Not us. Jesus was born a virgin and is not the seed of Adam. We are born from the seed of Adam. Jesus is the only one the father recognizes as righteous. A message focused on human sin is boring, useless, only looks at the symptom of the problem and not the solution which is Jesus. @lennarthorn7152Ай бұрын
Yeah but that doesnt mean George Lucas tried to depict Christianity as something bad with that. The comparision is really not that anti-Christian since Anakin is also depicted as the Messiah of Star Wars and the one who in the end defeats evil and brings balance to the force. He's certainly not like Jesus, cause he isnt perfect and does fall into sin, but that doesnt mean Star Wars is anti Christian because of that. Star Wars has far more Christian themes actually than Buddhist ones, I think the Buddhist ones are just all a bit more obvious.

I think justice and mercy better describe the dualism of Christianity than light and dark. Both justice and mercy come from God’s love for us. The cross really was the only way for God to both show perfect justice and perfect mercy at the same time.

Also, pertaining to your comment on Star Wars as Buddhist propaganda, I've actually found it to be a little more... complicated than that. Yes, the Jedi were designed with Buddhism in mind, but over the course of the first six films, we find that they actually shift towards being more Christlike as they become more honest with themselves as human beings, facing and reckoning with their own darkness in order to better confront the darkness in others and ultimately save them from it.

It's not that you have to "have" the dark side, but that you have to recognize and overcome/integrate your dark side. @luizandrade6900 Interesting, why so?
@luizandrade6900Ай бұрын
@JP-rf8rr His inspirations from pagan mythologies and own admission that his works "didn't need to conform to current christian doctrine" (I am paraphrasing, of course, but he said something along those line in a letter regarding the nature of orcs) are pretty worrying, aside from a few gnostic elements spread across middle earth.

I find the most efficient way to have the right view is to understand that sin is a symptom of the original sin in Genesis; To be like Gods. It is rejecting living a life of dependence. Both sides have the same problem. We wanna live as "adults" instead of a child of God. If you want to do what you want, you are rejecting to be dependent of God of what fulfills you. If you're being legalistic and want to try really hard to change yourself, you are rejecting to be dependent on God, who has the authority, to change your heart and deliver you. Neither side wants to depend on God, they want to do their own way instead of God's way. David understood this in Psalm 51, where he repents : "I have sinned against you and you alone." It's not about breaking rules, it's going against the ruler.

One thing is that we were always taught that God is love. When you think of love you think of light side.

It was the opposite for me when I started. I saw only the negative side of the faith. The rampant evil in the world, the broad path to destruction and everything of the like. While these things are important, it’s only half the picture.

When you mentioned Jesus saying “If you’re not with me, you’re against me” I immediately thought of Anakin saying the same thing in ROTS and you transitioned into your star wars metaphor lol

In some denominations in Christianity, the dark side is never quite resolved for the individual. There's great promises for the saved believer, but you don't know if you're one of them. Or you're saved, until you're not, because of a specific sin. And who can know if they have real true genuine lasting faith and live in real true genuine repentance? The threshold to the Kingdom is both high and ambiguous. Even preachers die without assurance (certainty). There's a cloud of doom above many christians who have never heard the good news of Christ's victory and the free gift of life.

Light/Dark could be also phrased as Soft/Hard or Sweet/Harsh. And then you could think of it is that the "hard" side is about *no compromise* with evil as opposed to "hating". That is, it is all still about Love, but it's "Tough Love". As you point out, a very large portion of young males are leaning in the direction of wanting a more "muscular" or "virile" Christianity, but one worries they're doing so more as an emotional reaction, and that's not the right take either. There is a whole contemporary issue with young males getting all hung up on feeling ... disempowered I guess is the polite term... but they should never forget, our self-identity is at the service of the Faith, NOT the other way around. The question to ask oneself in whether you are exercising tough love is: when the other person feels hurt by our rebuke, do we take pleasure in their distress? Do we even deny it exists? Because then that is not really being a "Strong" Christian, it's just satisfying ourselves in our own righteousness, without taking the *most* important step of bringing them around to realizing what IS good.

Law and Gospel is what you're looking for! The role of the Law is to make a complacent sinner realise they are sinful and need a saviour. The role of the Gospel is to offer forgiveness through Christ. Both the Law and the Gospel should be preached!

Do a tier list or scale or something! Like if Luke skywalk we is Buddha or Gahndi and Stalin or hitler is palpatine. How would martyrs and/or other historical figures fall on that scale/ tier(Excuse my spelling I’m not a nerd and I’m to lazy to go look it up)

I see sin as a blind fold that I was given the privilege of being able to peek under. What I see when I do is a cliff that me and others are about to step off of. All I try to do is warn others that the cliff is there and tell them who gave me this ability.

I feel like when it comes to star wars, star wars is absolutely not buddhist propaganda. The aesthetic of the Jedi are vaguely similar to buddhism, but the Jedi are actually VERY dualistic. Much of what the Jedi do is discerning what is evil, and combating it.
