The Alexandria tramway network serves the city of Alexandria, Egypt. It began operating in 1863, and consists of 20 lines operating on 32 kilometers (20 mi) of track, serving 140 stops. It is one of only a few tram systems in the world that uses double-deck cars; other examples are in Blackpool in the UK and Hong Kong. The system is 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in) standard gauge ~Wikipedia

You caught some fare dodgers ;-) The blue and white cars seemed nice enough on the inside. I wouldn't mind taking a ride in them.

Those trams are looking to be in pretty good condition (I have seen worse on video's than this). If only they had the will and money to maintain the existing tracks (even when they do not have funds to renew it) the ride would be improving a lot.

The internal railway in Alexandria began with the reconstruction of the Raml area with the end of the governor’s reign, in 1860, and on August 16 of the year it started with us in the tram, when the Egyptian government granted the English merchant, Sir Edward St. John Firman, a concession for a railway line connecting Alexandria between Alexandria and sand, while retaining the right to withdraw concessions from it at any time. In 1897, the company began to double the line between Raml Station and Bolkeley Station, to become this line as the basis, which then developed into the current Raml tram line. In June 1898, the tram line witnessed a great development, when the company decided to replace the steam-powered locomotives with electric ones, but that did not happen until the twenty-fifth of January 1904, and electric cars were used in Transporting passengers from the Raml Station Square to the Saray Ras al-Tin station only, because the area that extends from the Saray tram station to the Muhammadiyah, Victoria or Nasr station now belongs to Khedive Abbas Helmy II, and became available to the public in 1909.

Thank you Timothy for an extremely interesting video! Regarding double-decks, this Englishman would point out that those still running in Blackpool are (in effect) a museum operation'. The regular 7-days-a-week 19 hours a day service is run entirely by modern single deck low-floor trams. Your video showed only two double deck cars in Alexandria. I think Hong Kong is the only place in the world where the regular daily tram service is double deck. Am I right?

The operators need to ditch these recycled Soviet trams from the seventies. Even Kazakstan wouldn't allow this equipment on their streets.

funny enough, those are Japanese trams from the 80s and early 90s. Those yellow trams are from the Ukraine, built for Alexandria. Then there are Hungarian trams on the city network (also built for the city) as well as used DUEWAG-trams from Copenhague. Whichever of these you want to count as "Soviet"...

@@sepruecom In the USA, S.F operates "Muni".They operate the refurbished PCC cars circa 1937 on the "F" line! They've been lovingly restored but with modern touches such as air conditioning and access for the disabled! Interestingly enough SIEMENS USA operates in nearby Sacramento where they custom build the coaches for a good part of the MUNI transit lines (Trams and buses) Most of the network stands in good nick even given the pandemic.
