I like how much everyone is getting into Trench Crusade but I wonder if this is gonna be another one of those games that everybody talks about and then nobody actually plays. I also feel like miniaure agnosticism is a double-edged sword, a lot of people have been doing cool stuff with it but I'd imagine the average table is gonna be full of space marines, and that's definitely going to kill the vibe.

Funnily enough, there's more precident for plate armour in the trenches than you might think! Both Germany and Britain made use of heavy plate armour for some specialist troops, albeit to limited success. Sentries and Machine gunners were both given armour, as they were rather exposed and generally static (so the weight was less of an issue). It would usually consist of a lobster shell-like arrangement protecting the neck and chest down to the groin. German machine gunners also had a forehead plate that attached to their helmets Might be other nations used them too but I'm not sure
@celticperspective51834 сағат бұрын
The Americans and British developed some of their own plate armour but testing proved it was more trouble than it was worth. Because the Germans were mostly on the defensive they could afford to have more static doctrine of just sitting tight with as much dirt, concrete or steel between them and the enemy as possible

The lion was usually a symbol for fire while the snake he is eating is possibly a reference to eternity or cyclicism. In alchemy fire was seen as a force that could through many iterations purify base matter, through a black, white, red and finally yellow phase to become spiritually pure. Alchemist slogans included references to eternal fires purifying everything and the importance of keeping the fire burning in the lab. Anyway, beautiful models and lots of good lore and research here. Really enjoyed this video.

Correction about plate armor: Early firearms COULD be stopped by metal plates. Indeed, it's part of why knights and other soldiers started wearing more of them, shifting away from chainmail. Some armor-makers would deliberately shoot their work with a gun prior to sale, pointing it out to potential buyers as proof it could withstand bullets. (Hence, "bullet-proof"). It's only later, as firearms started becoming stronger, that plate mail disappeared from warfare, and soldiers were forced to embrace a greater emphasis on mobility and cover for protection.

When using Meshmixer, you can select the "sculpt" tool and then with a "move" or "reduce" brush fix places where pieces of the original underlying model are weirdly sticking out from underneath the digitally kitbashed parts. Only the highlighted sub-models will be deformed by the brush while the other models will stay as they are. That makes working with overlapping parts super simple. To select which parts of your kitbashed model you want to work with, navigate to "edit" menu and select "separate shells." Then you will be able to click and select.

Another fun fact I like to point out about alchemy and its obsession with gold is that they thought gold and its properties of never decaying and being untarnishable was the secret to immortality and in making gold, they would be able to turn themselves into gold and live forever. There was a heavy focus on concoctions that turned yellow and/or started glowing because clearly, that was close to becoming gold... but they were mostly just playing around with highly toxic chemicals.

I really recommend even if the theme is a bit off putting, everyone check out the rules for Trench Crusade, they are really streamlined and fun skirmish rules, that will also always be updated for free according to the creators. You can always reskin the theme, and all the models have listed base sizes, so just proxy models you like to try it out.

Amazing! I loveee digital kitbashing, it’s sooo much fun! Side note, on your alchemist, did you fill in that hole on his back or did you just cover it up? If you left a cavity in there with no drain hole you are gonna have a bad time /: any trapped uncured resin will begin to off gas and eventually burst through the weakest point in the model and leave your carefully painted mini an oily toxic mess /: speaking from experience 😔 you always always always have to fill in any cavities. I typically use spheres to fill them in and go layer by layer on before printing anything to make sure there aren’t any hidden cavities 😊
@EricsHobbyWorkshop4 сағат бұрын
Pretty sure my slicer detects and fills holes but i guess time will tell lol
@emmamarx92844 сағат бұрын
@ ohhh, do you have the pro version of chitubox? That was always hit or miss for me, I think UVTools has an option to fill in cavities and the ones it doesn’t fill you can pixel paint on each layer until it’s gone.
