Maggie threatens to separate Dr. Choi and April when they disagree on how best to care for a patient.
Season 3 Episode 2 "Nothing to Fear"
Dr. Rhodes continues to balance his home and work lives and, when a patient of his is re-admitted to the hospital following surgery, Dr. Latham sidelines him from the case. Dr. Manning and Dr. Halstead treat a pregnant woman, but things become complicated when they discover the baby is malnourished and underdeveloped. Dr. Reese and Dr. Daniel Charles continue to disagree regarding patient treatment, leading to one patient slashing Dr. Reese's car tires.

Domante Dauskurdaite well a pneumothorax is when the pleural cavity fills with air and prevents the lungs from expanding. After sticking the needle in him (needle decompression) the air is released so he can breathe. And no I’m not a doctor nor did I copy this from Wikipedia so don’t trust me lol

@Hannah B there was no malpractice involved at all in this case. The patient didn't want the tests sure but April convinced him to do so. It's not malpractice to try and convince a patient to do what's medically indicated
@seangannon6005
@seangannon6005 5 жыл бұрын
@Hannah B no, it isn't. The pneumothorax is a complication of a medically indicated procedure. For malpractice to stick, you need to prove that a harm was caused as a result of a decision that failed to meet a standard of care. Essentially, you'd have to prove that either no reasonable medical professional of similar grade to choi would've made the same decision under the circumstances

Precious Mel. Ethan and April both love each other. April may seem hesitant because she had asked Ethan (Dr Choi) to keep their relationship a secret on the workplace because a nurse had said Ethan was showing favoritism by giving April lab work to do when the other nurse had to do the dirty work. There is a type of fluid like layer around most organs however this fluid is normal. Fluid becomes a concern when it is filling the organs or is around the organ directly and not in the intrapleural space (area between inner and outer layer of lung) for this case. When fluid is inside the lungs, the person is drowning. (My Nan had 2 cases of pneumonia, 2 lung drainage and passed away from lung cancer)
@raventru956
@raventru956 4 жыл бұрын
Mickalla Davis Really sorry to hear about your Nan. I this vid though, the pulmonary oedema(fluid in lungs) is most likely secondary to heart failure. In heart failure, blood can’t be pumped properly due to ventricular damage so the blood is forced back (backflow). As a result of the back flow, fluid escapes the blood vessels where they shouldn’t. In this case, it was probably left side heart failure so back flow goes back to lungs where the fluids/oedema escapes.

You're wrong sir, doctors and nurses has been studying for so long. What the doctors studying is been taught to nurses, inside the hospital every nurses and doctors has equal knowledge you can't say such thing without knowing what nurses been through before they become nurse. Before doctors become doctors they started as a nurse.
@rrven4667
@rrven4667 4 жыл бұрын
@@flagellationynfluencia1971 i have to disagree on that. Although nurses and doctors have the same end goal, to recoup optimal health, but nurses focus more on the patient, while doctors on the disease. That's what separates nurses from doctors, nursing both science and art. But for hierarchy, no one is above the other. They help one another. The same goes for other medical professionals.

@@rrven4667 nurses can't be focus on patient without knowing what kind of disease or illnesses they're suffering, doctors and nurses works together. Go try to be a nurse without proper knowledge about every disease.

@@flagellationynfluencia1971 if you understood what I just said, I have said they do work together in order for patients to attain optimal health. But what separates nurses from doctors is that nurses focus more on treating the patient, while physicians are more with the physiological disorder. One thing, that's what we are taught in school, and yes, I am in nursing school.

Nice to see a show understand sometimes a scene is best left not fully experienced by the audience. Silence or total exclusion from a scene can make it feel a lot more impactful. This is a perfect example. The doctor acknowledges the importance of nurses who actually see the patient as more than a list of conditions or symptoms. We are left to experience the scene as he does because it's not our place in that room.

Comments be like: Px: "I can't breathe" Nurse: "Just breathe" Commenter: *facepalm* She was doing the right thing in the situation. Us nurses have to make sure our patients carry on as usual just so we can see if the procedure is helping them stabilize. We can't know if the lung tap helped re-expand his collapsed lung if he didn't breathe as he normally would.
