I think it is worth pointing out that the "round points" in the mask act like bezier control points - so the mask can have very curvy and non-polygon like shapes.

Hi Henry ... indeed! Thanks for highlighting that. And I should have used that in my non-uniform vignette example.

The last image was an excellent example how use Line Mask in another unusual scenario. Thanks Scott, again valuable information from you. Regards Daniel

Thanks, Charles. And should be on the playlist (sometimes the playlist updates lag a short while after the video posts).

Another awesome explanation of tools I thought I had understood. Yet, you managed to teach me something. After you complete your line mask, it never occurred to me I could click outside of the box (rather than inside). Also, I had used mask outside of the canvas before, but never thought of using the line mask there as well, especially not for a vignette style of edits. I had always used line mask for clear and concise shapes perimeter. Thank you so much for sharing and opening up our minds.

Glad it was helpful, Frédéric. I remember when I first realized I could "go outside the lines" ... eye-opening :)

Hi Scott, you forgot to mention that you can turn the lines into curves? You could have enclosed the wheels with the line mask. Just a thought for a later video perhaps?
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I did forget to mention the 'curve/bezel' aspect of those midpoints available when editing a line mask. Thanks for bringing it up!!

I always found the way the line mask tool operates is kind of weird compared to other masking tools that are much more interactive. It feels odd to have the controls greyed out until you click "Done". And then having to carefully select the mask when you want to adjust it. One thing I discovered is that you can add control points after the fact when editing the line mask by right clicking and choosing to "Add point". Very good explanations Scott. Thanks very much!

Ooh ... the right-click to Add Point. I forgot to mention that in the video. Thanks for bringing that up.

How do you use this to make a selected edge you want to clone to like you can do with the pen tool in affinity photo without being in an effect or adjustment.?
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris ... The Line Mask is for masks, not cloning. The retouch tools don't have brush shapes or selection-type tools. So ... if you want to clone with the Line Mask? I suppose you could duplicate the layer, use the Line Mask on the new layer to clip out what you want, then use the Transform tool to move the new layer into the position you want.
@chrisbartlett81462 жыл бұрын
@@ScottDavenport yes I think that is the only solution I was seeing if it would work like Affinity photo where you make a selection the same way with a pen tool then clone to the edge of the mask and does not paint into the black so you end up with a clean edge. It sort of worked but not consistantly

I am not a Photoshop guru but this seems like something done with the pen tool. Correct?
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip, I don’t use PS often either…. Though, yes, a selection tool in PS does this type of work. A nice add would be the “magnetic” options that PS has.
