Well, that's the reason you watch anything on KZbin isn't it?

It's been months since this was posted so definitely not expecting anyone to see this but I love chess puzzles so I couldn't help but try my hand at finding the best move for white at 16:00. Maybe it will help one or two folks in the future who come across this video, who knows. The move is Re3 threatening to infiltrate along the h file. If black does nothing or tries to find counterplay on the king it's mate in 3. Rh3+ Bh7, Rhxh3+ Kg8, Qe6# Without any good checks it's just not possible to set anything up in time. If black moves the queen away from the defense of f6 for any reason then Qxf6+ kg8, Qxg5+ Kh8, Rh3# becomes possible or if Qxg5 is defended Qf7+ is an alternative and they can't block both. Even Qe5+ giving up the queen and trying to get rid of a rook doesn't really work to stop the attack. After Rxe5 if they recapture with the pawn fxe5 it's still forced mate after Qf6+ Kg8 Qf7+ Kh8 Qh7#. There are two defenses for black and they're both bishop moves. Moving the light square bishop to b3 leaves white without any checks after Kg8 and the rook guards the bishop. White still infiltrates and black is barely holding it together, if they even are, but it's not really forced mate. If black moves the dark square bishop trying to give the king an escape it seems like it doesn't work since the whole original sequence is still possible just now checkmate happens with Qf7# after the king moves to f8. There's also nowhere the bishop can move that is defended. With Bh6 however Rh3 no longer comes with check which has the effect of delaying when in the attack Black gets to respond, allowing black to play Qe5+ if Rh3 is played. If white tries to move forward with Rh3 anyway and ignores the threat things get bad and after the check white gets a chance to bring their bishops into the attack. So Rh3 isn't really possible but pretty much all of black's pieces are completely stuck while white still has mobility and a passed pawn. It would require very precise play to stop all the threats in time. It's kind of crazy how much a quiet move like Re3 undoubling the rooks and moving back just paralyzes black while threatening to blow them off the board altogether. When you go through the whole line Bh6 seems intuitive but over the board that's pretty hard to see.

Instead of the triple powered battery by adding the Q to c7 is to play Re3 to attack the K from h3 and so forcing Bh6 to defend an attack with Rh3 by white. But I don't care what mood you GingerGM are in, I watch for the free lessons I get on here. I am going to put some in my memory bank for when I play the London System, because I actually needed this today. Still saved my hiney with a back rank spanker, but I was in trouble not knowing this line! Thank you as always.

You know Mr. Williams, a few years ago I had dreams about showing up to that pub and playing chess with you guys. Unfortunately I messed my life up pretty bad. I thought back in 2019 I was on the upswing and I'd have everything again, well looks like God had other plans I suppose. The World decided otherwise. It's kind of sad truthfully, but fuck it, normal people will make this shit blow over and hopefully all our loved ones will survive this callous experiment. Goodluck to you sir, you've inspired me throughout the years to play chess.

❓CAN someone explain the meaning of his phrase “TEMPO on the Queen”? [7:30] I’ve never completely understood TEMPO. I know it equates to “TIME” or “MOVE(s)”. So if you gain Tempo, it’s like an extra move ahead or something? Idk. Could someone explain TEMPO (at ~ 7:30) in his context in the video?

Exactly. Think of a Tempo as a move to get ahead. Obviously, in chess, the one pressuring the other side is ahead. But Tempo is even simpler - it's more about getting your pieces where you want them, at any part of the game (open, mid, end). The best example I know of to lose a tempo is when you let go of the mouse too soon!! It will take you an extra turn to get the piece where you meant to, and you may get shut down in your attempt. If in an opening, you go back to where you started, this is generally considered a loss of Tempo because instead of developing the piece (which usually takes only one move) you have used two moves, and now to develop it, it will take 3 moves - that's two extra moves your opponent has had to develop their pieces - so you lost Tempo (there are times when moving back is a good idea, though - if you ruined their pawn structure for example). So a Tempo loss, it's not quite a blunder or a mistake (though it can be), but it usually leaves the opponent in a better position - with a better score (when analyzing) because they have developed more, or are closer to ending the game.

There was a recent game from this World Cup in the rapid tiebreak round with Pechac vs. Fier where 14. Ne4 was tried.
