Flameshock 101 Ya know, if I’m being honest, I’m actually not opposed to this version of Be Prepared. I think this version of Be Prepared fits in very well with the mood of the film. Disney wanted to remove it because they felt it didn’t fit, but when people got pissed, Disney tried to fit it in the best way they could. Yeah the original is always going to be better, but I don’t think this one is that bad. For one, the hyenas are much more intelligent in this version, and it wouldn’t make sense for Scar to mock their smarts when they certainly aren’t as lacking, and two, this Scar is meant to be much more malicious and bitter rather than cunning and sly and it would’ve been extremely out of character for him to just burst into a rather upbeat song (despite its dark message) and if I’m being honest, I really liked the addition of the hyenas chanting be prepared. I like this version of the song, the only problem I had was that I felt it was executed poorly. Scar gives a speech, and you can't tell he's singing until towards the end of the song. Not to mention Scar just wanders around aimlessly as he "sings." This had the potential to be as great as the original in a darker tone, but it lacked emotion as it seemed more like Scar was talking, not singing. Except for the end. If the whole song had been as emotional as the end, it would have been a great song. I like the dark tone of the song, but it just felt hollow and like Scar didn't even care about the song.

Hei Darkfire i can see how it would feel that way. And I’ll agree, the voice acting isn’t as good as it was in the original song. But I like the change in the lyrics at the beginning. And again, the chanting of the hyenas. Some things that I think would’ve made this scene better is if they brightened the setting a little because it’s hard to see what’s even going on and if they had changed how scar is presented in this scene. They wanted to give the scene movement instead of it just being Scar standing their talking for 4 minutes. But they should’ve gone with something other than him walking around for the entire thing. Something that adds to the characters’ well, character. They could have even had him sitting there talking but have the hyenas providing the movement instead. Something like Shenzi looking around and after seeing the approval of her pack she challenges his plan once more before agreeing (and follows him and whatever they would’ve felt appropriate). After all, she is the alpha female. They don’t exclusively state this, but that’s what they imply with her more authoritative personality. She’s the leader. So, in being the one that has to do what’s best for her group, she should be more indecisive and reluctant to join since if something should go wrong, her and the others could face the wrath of mufasa.

Po Omega the singing isn’t too good for the scene, I’ll agree, but I think they were trying to make scar more cold, bitter, and hateful than cunning and sly with a bit of humor. And I think that they achieved that with his looks. He’s genuinely creepy. And the voice actor’s good. For who they could’ve gone with (*cough* Beyoncé as Nala *cough*) I think he’s pretty decent. His voice isn’t iconic like Jeremy Irons, but he did a good job where it counted. People give him hate because he voiced Scar instead of Irons, but considering a lot of what Disney did wrong with this film, he wasn’t a terrible choice for the voice of Scar. And really, I’d say that apart from James Earl Jones and maybe Timon and Pumba’s actors, he was the best one they chose

It would have been a great song if not for the mediocre execution. It sounded more like a speech, just had Scar wandering around aimlessly as he spoke, and just when you can tell Scar is singing, the song ends. The dark tone is great for the movie, but the whole scene was just executed really poorly and just came off as lacking any kind of soul. This could have been a great moment, but overall, it felt too hollow with exception of the end. The end was pretty great.

@@Hei_Darkfire I completely agree, also it lacked a lot visually. Remember the 94 version while they were singing they had pits of steam blowing around them and cracks open/glow with red lava below. I would have loved to of seen the visuals for that in this remake, could of looked so good too. The scene just lacked colour and vibrance too. That is the only issue with some of these remakes, they can't seem to recreate the colour or vibrance the cartoons had. (EXCEPT 2016's Jungle Book) Jungle Book was brilliant and full of colour and quality too.

I really like the way they remade the hyenas, Shenzi is so f*cking good in this movie. She is on a rock, on a higher place than Scar because this is her land, she is the lord here, she has more power than anyone except the King in her land, if Scar need her army, he must give something in return, something worthy, not just insult her people like the original cartoon.

Some additions i did like to the lore from this movie, like the fact that the Hyenas didn't really like Scar because they were at war with the Lions but Scar bargins with them for aid because they have no food while Mufasa's land has all the land with food, yet only because the Hyenas overhunt. I also like the fact they add that Scar was jealous because he thought Mufasa was too restrained in his hunts, Scar is greedy, and thus later explains why the Pride Rock turned into a wasteland, because they destroyed it the same way lie a plague. Shenzi is also much better affirmed to be in charge of the Hyenas while in the original it was vague. She was the smartest but not implied to be the leader. It was good that the Hyenas were treated as another faction and not just sidekicks. It also makes sense Scar had to bargin with them because his character is supposed to be frail and weak compared to Mufasa. So this movie takes itself more seriously regarding the character motivations.

Without comparing it to the original, this is actually kinda good. Definitely interesting and probably needed more work. I like this version just by itself without comparing it to the original. This is more relying on rhythm and acts as if scar is more like a general enlightening his army. I think it does pretty well if you don't base it off the original, giving it either a good or bad rating based off just that.

That's the deference between Mufasa and Scar... When Scar started to come towards Shenzi,all other hyenas were showing anger and getting prepared to attack on him. On the other hand,after beating all hyenas in order to saving Simba and Nala,Mufasa came near towards Shenzi and gave a threat to her.None of hyenas had that courage to protest by showing anger to Mufasa let alone attack on him.. That's the dominantion of Mufasa as king.. So all should say-"As a king,Mufasa is 10 times than Scar was"

What I like about this Scar is that he's not a coward like the original. Aside from the scene with Simba, he actually seems somewhat tough. Hell he's got balls insulting the hyenas by calling them "fools" and how they couldn't kill two cubs. The original was awesome in the first half, but when he became king he was pretty much just a cowardly man-child.

They changed up this song alot due to the fact that none of the hyenas in the 2019 remake are as dumb and stupid as some were in the 1994 version, and some of the lyrics in the 1994 version were addressing the fact some of the hyenas were dumb. But like i said, none of them were in this remake. That's why they changed the song into more of a speech tone, but they kept some of the singing parts.

It almost seems like Scar's ideology has flipped from left to right 1994 to 2019, respectively. In 1994, his promise to the Hyenas was "stick with me, and you'll never go hungry again," and in 2019 his promise to the Hyenas is "When I am King, the Mighty will be free to take whatever they want."

Well this movie says that the Hyenas had nothing to ear from the start and Scar wasnt living with them by tried to make a deal with them so that they could get the food in Pride Rock that they weren't allowed in unless Scar could take it over. The original didn't really acknowledge why he was just with them. I used to think Scar lived with them the whole time or something but in this movie he just goes to them on their land. Scar brings them food in the original but its not implied because they didnt have anything beforehand. So this movie does make things clearer.

The only thing I didn't enjoy very much was the fact that the Hyenas didn't fear Scar, it kind of takes his weight off as a villain. In the animation, they respect him, but they are also a little afraid of him, because they know that even though he is not as strong as Mufasa, Scar is still an adult and ferocious lion, besides that the hyenas themselves find him sinister, in the animation.

Them not fearing him made them killing him at the end of the movie tie in much better. In the original he insults them constantly and even when they are starving he doesn't care. Why would a small insult at the end suddenly make them have the courage to challenge him?

In the animation the hyenas, despite being a little scared of Scar, had respect for him, because they considered him part of their social group of excluded and because in part, they fed them. In addition to the tales where it shows that Scar and the Hyenas (the trio), had known each other since young.

I kind of disagree. In this movie its shown that Shenzi isin a much better learship position and distrustful of Scar which is because the Lions never got along with them and pushed them out of the lands, while Scar had to earn their trust for them to listen to his agenda. There isnt realy a reason for them to fear scar considering they out number him and Scar says himself he isnt as strong compared to Mufasa, and his design is very frail and tattered. I think it makes more sense in this movie, as the original didn't explain why he was with them. It has you think he was always lording over hem.

@@StorytellingMan I think this movie makes more sense thb because in both the Lions and Hyenas don't get along but why would they just look up to Scar so much then decide to kill him? In this movie the Elehant graveyard is on their land, and Shenzi doesn't trust him from the start, and he tells simba he didnt care about them which proves them right and they turn on him making their dislike for Lions much stronger imo and fits more with real life lion and hyena mutual opposition. Where as in the original he becomes scared of them when they turn on him despite them just casually listening to him in the begining. The original makes the Hyenas seem like just random savages, while this movie gives them a reason to dislike him, and they use his original flattery for them as their motive to kill him.

Everyone says the original is so much better and keeps comparing this one to the original. You can’t compare this to the original because it’s NOT the original. Yes, it’s a remake, but it’s more than just that. It’s something with a different take on it to match the art style it’s portrayed with. Of course it isn’t as colorful and as joyful as the original, because it’s more lifelike and more realistic. If the movie was the exact same as the original, what would be the point in remaking it?

I'd agree if the movie wasn't using the same lines of dialogue, same sequence of events, same musical score, etc. If we were talking about something like "The Thing", which was a remake of "The Thing from Another World", I'd understand a little bit more because the remake did many things that were unique to the original and I don't think it would be fair to compare those. But this "unique" remake of 'The Lion King' is basically a carbon copy except with less energy, mediocre voice acting, and realistic animation that gets in the way of feeling for the characters. I'd say comparing this and the original is completely justified (especially since the only lines of dialogue I can remember from the remake are ones that were already in the original).

Exactly. It’s not the same. It’s a retelling. Same story, but with some changes here and there. I personally really enjoyed it. And as far as the characters being ‘emotionless,’ they actually aren’t. They are actually quite expressive but they show it the same way real animals do; through body language, some things subtle, some not. Hate to break it to people, but real animals do not cry or show emotion through facial expression like people do. Also, has anyone ever seen moments where they try to put human expressions on realistic animals? It’s kinda creepy and looks extremely unnatural. Like earlier in this exact movie where they tried to make the hyenas have evil/mocking smiles. It looks weird and wrong. The subtle facial expressions work when you recognize that the animals do, in fact, show emotion, just in a different way.

For one, the hyenas are much more intelligent in this version, so it wouldn’t make sense for Scar to mock their smarts when they certainly aren’t as lacking, and two, this Scar is meant to be much more malicious and bitter rather than cunning and sly and it would’ve been extremely out of character for him to just burst into a rather upbeat song (despite its dark message) and if I’m being honest, I really liked the addition of the hyenas chanting be prepared. Again, the original is better, but with the circumstances, I think this version fits in very well with what the movie tried to achieve.

Although it would’ve been better to have the full song of Be Prepared here I’m glad that we at least got a version of it 😊 I’m sad that Jeremy Irons didn’t voice Scar though Disney didn’t even approach him about reprising his role Jeremy confirmed this in an interview and before people go saying that they couldn’t afford Jeremy to come back or pay for him first off it’s Disney they literally make live actions remakes these days as a cash grab and secondly they got James Earl Jones back to reprise his role as Mufasa so if they can afford James Earl Jones then they could definitely have afforded Jeremy’s Irons 😒. Still Be Prepared is considered one of the best villain songs in Disney villains musical numbers and I’m glad that it was still shown and portrayed in some way even if it’s just talking/talk singing 💚
