I thought this movie might have worked if they'd made it so that Simba gets disillusioned with his father's teachings. Mufasa won't teach Simba the fun side of being king like hunting and ruling until he learns the importance of balance. While fun uncle Scar is more than willing to teach him how to hunt, how to push boundaries and take what he wants. Scar knows he'll never be able king but if he can manipulate the new king, he won't have to be. The movie could have been about the struggle Simba faces being the king that his father wanted him to be, versus the king he wanted himself to be. Perhaps Mufasa dies because instead of being with him on patrol, Simba was out hunting or playing with Nala. Mufasa got ambushed and defeated because his years caught up with him. It IS Simba's fault. He wanted power but neglected responsibility. He listened to his manipulative uncle instead of his wise father.

Why does Scar look so sick and mangy in this version? In the original, he's lean - not as muscular as Mustafa - but he doesn't look ill. He's physically capable, but essentially a coward, preferring guile and deception.

YMS deffo weren't the first to point out the glaringly obvious differences between the slew of lazy cash grab attempts that are current reboots/remakes/sequel and the original stories that everyone knows and loves The new bs are curated sans heart, with zero purpose other than monetary.

The problem with Scar's contradiction in his story on how Mufasa and Simba died, is that it was incredibly stupid for him to say that he didn't make it. He knows that Zazu was there with him in the gorge, he should assume that Zazu would tell the lionesses that he is in the gorge. But despite that, Scar made the conscious decision to say that he didn't make it. And he just hoped that Zazu wouldn't say anything for years while he was king. The worse part is that Scar didnt even need to say that. He could have just said that he wasn't able to save Mufasa and Simba, because clearly (somehow) the lionesses made it to the gorge after Mufasa was dead. So not only did Scar die from his humerus (like in the original movie), but he died from his stupidity as well.

To be fair. He died from Stupidity in the original as well. Since he didn't bother to kill Simba in he had the chance twice. All while shooting his mouth off about he killed Simba's Father when he could have just not said anything at all. Did everything in his power to piss off the Hyena's and Lioness to where no one was on his side. Stuck around Pride Rock after he confessed to everyone that he killed Mufasa and did not bother to leave the area. Attacked his Nephew instead of getting away after Simba exiled him. All while being surrounded by fire and animals who all wanted to kill him. So in both versions. He simply died as a result of stupidity. Plain and simple.

@dylansmith5206 Well, if you are referring to Simba when he was a cub, I don't know how he would have killed Simba without the Lionesses finding out or looking extremely suspectious. The way he pissed off the Lionesses was being an awful king, and the way he pissed off the Hyenas was him pinning the blame on them, both was done out of laziness, pride and desperation; not stupidity. He attacked his nephew despite being exiled because 1. He didn't want to give up Pride Rock 2. He was somewhat confident that he could kill him. Both are done out of pride. The only thing I will agree with you on that was stupid was him telling Simba that he killed his father, but at the same time, I have no idea what leverage on the cliff Simba used to push himself up the cliff and launch himself at Scar; so to me that whole scene is weird. I still believe, though, that 2019 Scar was more stupid than what Scar did in the original. The mistakes Scar made were flaws in his character. The mistake Scar made in the 2019 movie was one stupid lie that would have gotten him caught immediately or at any other point during his rule. So, 2019 Scar still died more from his stupidity and pride, and the original Scar died more from his pride.

Since all Scar would have had to do was slit Simba's throat. Wash his paws very good. Tell the lionesses he died in the Stampede. But no. Let your nephew go knowing that your minions won't bother to finish the job and hope like Hell that he won't ever come back when he becomes a teen or adult. And as far him not giving up Pride Rock after being exiled. I get that. But still. Scar getting away after that would give him plenty of time to slip away undetected. Think of a new plan to take back Pride Rock. Come up with a new lie to tell his minions. All while having enough time to think over things. But no. Lie. Hope like Heaven that you can get away after attacking while being surrounded by angry minions and fire and other animals in case you loose said fight. And just hit your nephew for a bit all while hoping like Heaven that he didn't become a trained fighter while out in the Wilderness. That plus I would remind. Scar happily pointed out that these words in the film early on that contradict his actions in the climax- "Well as far as brains go, I've got the Lion's share but when it comes to brute and strength, I'm afraid I'm at the shallow end of the gene pool". He admitted himself that he never had the brawns needed in a fair fight. Yet he still goes on the offensive like a brian dead drunk man who's waving his fist around in a bar! So sorry to say this. But Scar dying in the original was a result of stupidity as opposed to his Pride. You can yell and scream at me all you want for thinking my opinion is horrible and nasty. I still will never agree with you whatsoever. Just like how I disagreed with so many butthurt Nintendo fans when they called Super Smash Bros Ultimate the best game ever made. When in reality. Smash Ultimate was fuckin garbage in every sense of the word. Nuff said.

@dylansmith5206 Listen, I never said your opinion was "horrible and nasty." You can think whatever you want. I'm just refuting your argument. And I'm not yelling nor screaming, I'm disagreeing with you. Anyway, you said he can just slit his throat and then wash his paws to hide the evidence. But how is he gonna do all of that before Zazu wakes up. From what I can tell, I don't see water anywhere near where they are. So if he has to go far to wash the blood, then Zazu will possibly wake up, not seeing Scar there, which will make him suspicious. On top of that, if the lionesses find Simba's body, then there gonna obviously see that his neck was slit. Then there's your second point. What plan can Scar possibly come up with at the point Simba banishes him. The Hyenas won't work with Scar for many reasons, even if he escapes. The Pride Lands are as desolate as their previous home, so he can't bribe them with food. And then he'll find out that they're mad with him that after what he said to Simba. So they'll just try to kill him anyway like they did in the original, and if he gets away from that somehow, then he'll be alone in the wilderness, with no hope of facing Simba and the lionesses and no pain that can combat there numbers. That's why he stayed and fought cause that was all he could do at this point. In a hypothetical case, let's say that the Hyeans didn't hear what Scar said to Simba. There will be a very low chance that they'll join them for the first reason I just gave before. So Scar will end up alone again. Based on this information, fighting was really all Scar can do; there was no reasonable plan at that point, and he couldn't just use his brain to finesse himself out of this situation. So I still disagree with you, and I still think that Scar 2019 is more dumb than the original Scar. But I'm also willing to be proven wrong by you, I just haven't yet. And if you're not convinced by my argument, you can either critique it or not respond. So it's fine if we don't agree, we'll just keep having this discussion, or we can just agree to disagree. Either way is ok. Hope you have a good day

@@xephorix nice! I have seen the subbed version in English because Sony didn't bother to A: release the dub in my country or B:sub it in my native language. It really annoys me especially since they have more than anoth money to sub it in Dutch if they wanted but they didn't. And than they are surprised not many people bought tickets.... But any way I have seen part of the dub via a cam recording and that cam quality aside. I am a little conflicted on it. A lot of it is good but I really think they didn't cast the correct actor for suzume. She sounds older than she probably should it almost feels like she didn't get directed well becouse some of the emotional scenes don't seem to get the emotion across that well. Which version have you seen?

Very nicely done Gaming Magic in terms of a commentary for a terrible film. Though I do want to say something . As far as you guys saying that Simba stumbled into Scar at 14:42. I have a gut feeling that while Simba was playing with that bug. Scar was actually following him around the place hoping to secretly murder him. Since when Simba climbs up on the rock to speak with his uncle. It almost looks as if Scar is wanting to so badly rip his head off. No joke or exaggeration. Also. You guys are going to hate on me for saying this. And I don't care. But I do think Scar telling Zazu to get the Lionesses At 32:48 was a much needed fix up from the original. It always bugged me seeing how Zazu never questioned as to why Scar knocked him out in the original. Since I doubt him being knocked against the rock in the original would cause memory loss to where Zazu could not remember Scar knocking him out cold. That plus I think the part at 1:03:56 where Simba is standing in the watering hole was a good fix as well. Since in the original film. The Water Hole disappears as Mufasa's Ghost interacts with Simba with no logical explanation. However. In terms of changing things in a remake. Why have those two small things be the only things they change to make the film different? That's like remaking the 1996 Animated Adaptation Of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. And making absolutely sure of it to show how the molten copper on the streets of Paris at the climax disappeared and showing that the 3 gargoyles from that film are not real and are only figments of Quasimodo's (The main protagonist of Hunchback). But keeping the original film exactly the same while making more dog vomit choices for the worst. But hey! What do I know? Aside from that. A fine job done on the commentary video. God bless and have a cool day! BTW. You ought to do a commentary on Disney 1996 Animated Adaptation of the Hunchback of Notre Dame at some point.

In Brazil, they do put the original title in English under the translated one but, like, REALLY TINY and in another font and color so it doesn't steal the focus away from the Portuguese title nor the rest of the art of the cover. ALSO, yes, portuguese from portugal dubs sucks BUT BRAZILIAN DUBS ARE AMAZING! SPECIALLY THE LION KING ONE. LIKE, Disney LITERALLY said the BR PT dub was the best adapted version of the script and took the Brazilian vas to Disney to celebrate it! It is THAT good!

I love both and here's my hot take: Lion Guard is my favourite thing in the franchise even with its plot holes that are jarring as all hell but I do like the characters and there are some things that add up nicely when compared to Lion King 2 Now about Lion King 2 my only complaint is there isn't a explanation of where the outsiders came from or why they are so loyal to Scar *(I originally put this on your latest video but I felt it was more appropriate to put here)*

I don't doubt that the creature designs are all incredibly realistic, as that seems to have been their priority when making this film. But that's sorta the key issue; if hyperrealism results in such an ugly movie, is it even worth it? Especially when the original they're basing this on was incredibly vibrant and colorful?

@@GamingMagic13 fair point. That's one of the biggest problems with these remakes. They take colorful movies and de-saturate them for realism's sake while missing the point. This is yet another point where I must say the least messy of these remakes was the jungle book. It ended up in some scenes even more colorful than the original, and instead of just being a halfassed retelling of the movie, it did take some notes from the book as well.

also the two songs brought back were thematic and barely felt forced. "Bear necessities" needs no explanation, but "I wanna be like you" does need some thinking. The fact that it was the only other musical song in the film is already a red flag to what's going on. As the scene goes on it is apparent that this music is all in King Louie's head as even the monkeys were confused by the end. This scene showed just how crazed Louie is and honestly makes this version terrifying. A happy go lucky king translated into a gigantic mentally unstable mob boss. One last note: There was no saving the lion king remake, but it would've been just a tinge bit more bearable to sit through if the animals were as expressive as they were in the jungle book remake.

Because it’s a movie that tries to replace a movie that didn’t need to be remade at all with how great it was. And all of the changes and just it being live action completely misses why the original was the way it was, all for the sake of money, which is a very valid reason for not liking it.
