The whole Beyonce thing is so insulting. Imagine you're a part of a project and you just keep getting asked about this other person instead of your experience, what you were doing, ect. It feels like they're shoving everyone else under the rug to boost this already incredibly famous person. Especially since she never showed up or really worked with them while everyone else did. The whole movie just felt like 'Hey, look at all these famous people!' and not about the movie at all. Also could you imagine being Beyonce and having everyone act like anything you do is insanely amazing? I wouldn't want that, let me actually do something first. Not be screamed at to look right

This is ironically *why* she doesn’t show up to a lot of things physically. Even when she earned an award with Meg Thee Stallion for Meg’s song, Trevor Noah turned the attention heavy to Beyoncé and you could see the discomfort on Bey’s face. She’s self-aware and doesn’t like distracting or upstaging her peers. It’s not her fault people worship her, the stans (especially the ones in journalism) are the real problem.

36:18 literally kills me because there is still a demographic for 2d movies. i myself and so many people i know would DIE for 2d to make a comeback. We haven't moved on from it, companies just want to push out movies faster and faster and faster and rake in on nostalgia rather than tell an original story with beautiful animation. It's heartbreaking to see, because there are so many people out there that would love to see a resurgence.

disney's biggest fucking mistake was going from 2d to 3d animation. ill go to my grave saying that. *edit: ill elaborate on this- i can see how it seemed like a good idea at the time due to the fact computer animation was becoming more common and more popular bc ✨wow technology✨ but disney's quality and reputation has just gone downhill in part because of it. its like going from a diet of homemade meals by your mom to eating fast food every day. there's just no love anymore.

@@michaelstrong5383 it is. Computer animation is not at all the bad guy here. It's a wonderful medium to tell stories with, and it can and proves to be beautiful in its own way. But I don't know, I feel like, when you spend so much time drawing characters frame-by-frame, there's a bit more care and love put into it because you're completely in charge of how all of it goes together. I'm very, very passionate about 2d animation and it breaks my heart that it's died out like it has. I have no idea if any of what i said makes sense and if not I apologize, I'm kind of out of it from cold medicine.

Beyonce was asked to audition for Disney's The Princess and The Frog and she refused, she would not audition, she would do it if given to her. The filmakers refused to just give her a role without the audition and thank goodness they didn't. So I am unsurprised that this time she was just given the role for name recognition. On a note about the whole animation/live-action debate - I argued with people I know that this is not live action and they said it counts. Recently, the BBC released a show called Final Day, and Apple TV have a show called Prehistoric Planet. Both have a documentary style and are narrated by David Attenborough - NO ONE IS CALLING THAT LIVE ACTION. Becasue its not. So why would you call this live action when everything you see if made on a computer.

Beyonace's aloofness was probably because it was yet another job for her. You listen to the interviews and most of the actors do seem excited to have been part of a production that meant something to them in their childhood, but Beyonce I'm sure was there for the money, showed up exactly as long as necessary, and dipped out because that's what she was hired to do. That's not really a knock against her, but it's pretty clear that Disney wanted her name attached to the project regardless of her own investment. Probably a similar situation to Emma Watson, where they had ONE PERSON in mind for the role and it was a name they could market, and fuck it if they were actually good. She was 'perfect' because the executives could market her. It seems nuts to me-- when I heard the casting decision I was mostly confused and a little annoyed-- and I'd figure The Lion King on its own would be enough to be a billion dollars worth of butts in seats. But then you see these promo clips of people losing their minds about her being there, and so many interviews having a side table of "So how FABULOUS was it to work with BEYONCE??!" and I guess her casting did what Disney wanted.

Well for Emma Watson, she was actually quite passionate about BatB and she was very involved in it. From her interview(s) where she said that she always want to play Belle ever since she was a kid to add certain elements to Belle that ended up in the movie. I bet there’s more examples but those are the ones I could think of. Also, I’m not a big fan of live action BatB but I just want to clear up a few things.
@arurasky
@arurasky 2 жыл бұрын
You may have a point but her aloofness has to be in part because thats what she has to do to keep her old hollywood type mysticism persona in tact. (Plus its been implied she doesnt do ANY interviews anymore because shes too shy i guess) I think she actually wanted to be involved in a disney project with other black folks for her kids since princess and the frog I mean come on-- I imagine it was her idea to do an entire album for this movie. Too much effort for a company that will return nothing, girl.
@AllyGatorAnimator
@AllyGatorAnimator 2 жыл бұрын
@@jane6799 Even as somebody who thought some of the changes that were made to fit Emma didn't really help the BatB movie, I really do admire how invested she was. Part of the reason I am so thoroughly frustrated with a lot of these remakes is because they have a perfectly good cast and crew who clearly give a damn, yet somehow all the wrong decisions get made along the way (as well as what I assume is a lot of meddling and possible rushing of production from higher-ups) and nothing quite gels. Lost potential sucks more than something that nobody gave a crap about to begin with.

@@arurasky Apparently Beyoncé missed out on the role of Tiana because she refused to audition (like she expected to just get an offer for the part outright). I'm not sure if she was as diva-ish as the tabloids made it out to be, but I'm curious if this means she was just given the role of Nala without auditioning. I don't have any doubts that she was excited either way though, I agree with you that I think she puts on a front.

I wish people respected and recognized the major differences between acting irl and VOICE acting. That’s why this cast fell so short imo. Star studded, but Donald (as expressive he is irl) was so monotone, and Beyoncé just did not fit at all. And the fact that these were ‘realistic’ cg lions did not help at ALL. Beyoncé played Beyoncé and that’s it. Literally was about to say something similar as you when Rafiki’s new VA was talking about him; it seems like whenever they talk so passionately about the film, they’re just referring back to the og animated one. Another thing I always thought; Beyoncé’s inspired album could’ve been stand alone with no association to TLK when compared to Rhythm of The Pridelands by Lebo M, which was a true 2nd part to the og soundtrack.

The existence of the Lion King remake still baffles me to this day. Say what you will about Disney's other remakes, but they at least tried to do something different with the plot, whether they make sense or not. This remake plays it way too safe and adds nothing to the classic story. What's worse is that the "realistic" animation sucks out all life and emotion to the plot. Unlike the original, I feel absolutely nothing when Simba lies next to his father's dead body because Simba is stone-faced all throughout. Sorry for this long comment, but much like Adam making his review, I can make an entire essay on all the stuff the Lion King remake did wrong and the fact that it made $1 billion worldwide, making it the highest grossing animated film of all time, hurts me.

Plus, this is a remake of a film that came out over 20 years ago that was set in Africa. The original movie was nominated for Oscars and has been a part of pop culture for years. Edit: I just noticed he said “an African story” - a movie that was written and directed by American white men? Why don’t you go to a Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie speech if you care about African stories?

I'm so glad you're not afraid to speak about Beyoncé lmao, there really does feel like this veil of ~perfect~ that people throw on her, when really it just seems like she does what she needs to do for her career and keeps everything else very private. While I can respect it, I don't understand her fanbase. Your part 1 of the movie in whole really opened my eyes to just how bad it really was, I was coming at it from the expression point of view (why are you making this movie if you're not going to properly tell the story, with emotion!), and when you pointed out mostly James Earl Jones' voice it blew my mind. I love that he was willing to come back and help, but I now believe he should have only re-voiced Mufasa when he was speaking to Simba through the clouds, if they were willing to use his younger voice for some bits, why not just all of it? He's an actor, if you explained it to him respectfully, he seems like the kind of person who would understand.
