The whole Beyonce thing is so insulting. Imagine you're a part of a project and you just keep getting asked about this other person instead of your experience, what you were doing, ect. It feels like they're shoving everyone else under the rug to boost this already incredibly famous person. Especially since she never showed up or really worked with them while everyone else did. The whole movie just felt like 'Hey, look at all these famous people!' and not about the movie at all. Also could you imagine being Beyonce and having everyone act like anything you do is insanely amazing? I wouldn't want that, let me actually do something first. Not be screamed at to look right

Beyonace's aloofness was probably because it was yet another job for her. You listen to the interviews and most of the actors do seem excited to have been part of a production that meant something to them in their childhood, but Beyonce I'm sure was there for the money, showed up exactly as long as necessary, and dipped out because that's what she was hired to do. That's not really a knock against her, but it's pretty clear that Disney wanted her name attached to the project regardless of her own investment. Probably a similar situation to Emma Watson, where they had ONE PERSON in mind for the role and it was a name they could market, and fuck it if they were actually good. She was 'perfect' because the executives could market her. It seems nuts to me-- when I heard the casting decision I was mostly confused and a little annoyed-- and I'd figure The Lion King on its own would be enough to be a billion dollars worth of butts in seats. But then you see these promo clips of people losing their minds about her being there, and so many interviews having a side table of "So how FABULOUS was it to work with BEYONCE??!" and I guess her casting did what Disney wanted.
@jane67992 жыл бұрын
Well for Emma Watson, she was actually quite passionate about BatB and she was very involved in it. From her interview(s) where she said that she always want to play Belle ever since she was a kid to add certain elements to Belle that ended up in the movie. I bet there’s more examples but those are the ones I could think of. Also, I’m not a big fan of live action BatB but I just want to clear up a few things.
@arurasky2 жыл бұрын
You may have a point but her aloofness has to be in part because thats what she has to do to keep her old hollywood type mysticism persona in tact. (Plus its been implied she doesnt do ANY interviews anymore because shes too shy i guess) I think she actually wanted to be involved in a disney project with other black folks for her kids since princess and the frog I mean come on-- I imagine it was her idea to do an entire album for this movie. Too much effort for a company that will return nothing, girl.
@AllyGatorAnimator2 жыл бұрын
@@jane6799 Even as somebody who thought some of the changes that were made to fit Emma didn't really help the BatB movie, I really do admire how invested she was. Part of the reason I am so thoroughly frustrated with a lot of these remakes is because they have a perfectly good cast and crew who clearly give a damn, yet somehow all the wrong decisions get made along the way (as well as what I assume is a lot of meddling and possible rushing of production from higher-ups) and nothing quite gels. Lost potential sucks more than something that nobody gave a crap about to begin with.

@@opper4325 it probably didn't help when the executives wanted more child-friendly aspects shoe-horned in. I feel like animation is tossed about as some made for kids when in reality it's an art form, a genre not exclusively for kids. Look at the Black Cauldron. That's a film which tried to be more for adults, but executives meddled with it so much to make the film even worse than it could've been. Here's the bottom line: Hollywood has that mindset where animation is just for kids and nothing else. I'm personally sick of that.

I wish people respected and recognized the major differences between acting irl and VOICE acting. That’s why this cast fell so short imo. Star studded, but Donald (as expressive he is irl) was so monotone, and Beyoncé just did not fit at all. And the fact that these were ‘realistic’ cg lions did not help at ALL. Beyoncé played Beyoncé and that’s it. Literally was about to say something similar as you when Rafiki’s new VA was talking about him; it seems like whenever they talk so passionately about the film, they’re just referring back to the og animated one. Another thing I always thought; Beyoncé’s inspired album could’ve been stand alone with no association to TLK when compared to Rhythm of The Pridelands by Lebo M, which was a true 2nd part to the og soundtrack.

The existence of the Lion King remake still baffles me to this day. Say what you will about Disney's other remakes, but they at least tried to do something different with the plot, whether they make sense or not. This remake plays it way too safe and adds nothing to the classic story. What's worse is that the "realistic" animation sucks out all life and emotion to the plot. Unlike the original, I feel absolutely nothing when Simba lies next to his father's dead body because Simba is stone-faced all throughout. Sorry for this long comment, but much like Adam making his review, I can make an entire essay on all the stuff the Lion King remake did wrong and the fact that it made $1 billion worldwide, making it the highest grossing animated film of all time, hurts me.

Going back to this after 2 years and it's so funny. Adum's comments and reactions are always gems. I can't believe this movie was so bad in so many ways and people just ate it up. What a wonderful weird saga. Following adum on this journey has been amazing. My faves: -Adum yelling "JAWN" -Drunk composer contradicting himself -Jon trying to justify the movie being good because of the dust particles and rocks -lady saying "there's no real animals so it's live action" I might be misremembering but they were so funny to me😂❤

I hate how this movie made over $1 billion at the box office…says a lot about our society and the kind of films people are choosing to support…

Seems like Beyonce was the only one who didn't want to participate and promote this movie. She just showed up for the check and did the minimum amount of work. Respect

To be fair nobody else wanted to promote this movie either, they were more interested in promoting Beyonce.

Small animation team: We can't take risks, it's not worth potentially losing money. Large soulless corporation: Take risks and innovate? Screw that! We just want money.

What makes the reaction segment even better is the react videos are all just acted out. And any real reactions are edited out of the video. So the "wow. Dude pride rock" is what the fine bros think is a good natural reaction

I love how all these actors are talking about the characters IN THE ORIGINAL FILM. I feel so bad for James Earl Jones too, he just looks so out of it.

I can't help but fear that Adams Lion King review will just open up on him in a big chair by the fire with a smoking pipe and a dressing down, peering over his half moon spectacles as he takes a long hard look at the camera before saying "I didn't care for it." Smash cut to black.

One, Beyonce needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. Two, whenever Beyonce's not onscreen, all the other characters should be asking 'Where's Beyonce?

They always ask “where’s Beyoncé?” But never “Why Beyoncè” 🤧
