For "Be Prepared," Jeremy Irons (AKA Scar) did sing the majority of this song. Right before the final section, though, he lost his voice. So Jim Cummings (Ray from Princess and the Frog, Edd in Lion King, Darkwing Duck, Winnie the Pooh & Tigger, too) was brought in to take over the last part of it.

Another one: Disney offered Young Simba’s singer $2M up front for his role. His mother renegotiated it down to $100K, plus royalties, since she noticed Disney started to rerelease their films. I’ve always found Simba’s Pride (LK2) one of the more appropriate Romeo & Juliet adaptations ever made because it had 1/2 of the crucial points from the original: the rivals being willing to BODY each other *on principle of the feud.* It creates *tension & risk* between the lovers that most adaptions miss entirely. (the other point is the feud ending upon *the death of the lovers* but it’s still *Disney* so we can’t have it all-)

Lion King is just one of those movies that sticks with you. Every part of it - music, animation, story, actors, emotional value - adds up into making it one of the most memorable classics for me. Disney just really did well with this one. Loved seeing your reaction to one of my favs! I also wanted to input that Lion King had one of the most watchable sequels, if you have never seen it. LK2 is one of the few classic sequels that I actually watch. The musical production value was different (less cinematic/orchestral) but the songs still stick with me. Plus it's fun getting to see Simba as a dad and the trials that come with. So I recommend it!

The Lion King came out when I was 20, and I saw it in the theatre. Back then, when I saw it, I cheered through most of it. Now, when I watch it, I cry through most of it. This movie was masterfully crafted, and it hits all the emotions, and hits them hard. I remember this so well, because The Lion King and The Crow were in the theatres at the same time. I was going on a date and the girl I was going with wanted to see the Crow, and I wanted to see this. We compromised and saw both. That was a great night. As an aside, I think that Scar suffers the most horrific death of all Disney villains. He is mauled to death by hyenas and eaten. And it was, probably, not quick. Hyenas are scavengers, and their jaws are built VERY strong, to be able to bite through bone. They compete with lions for food. They will usually hang around after a lion's kill and either try to rush in and grab a piece, or if the pack is large enough, will try to drive them away. Lions are sprint killers, they cannot sustain a prolonged chase and are usually very tired after a kill, so they are at their most vulnerable and weakest while eating. As for Pumba, a warthog, at a full charge is a devastating creature. With those massive, stout, stout, tusks, they are capable of killing a lion if they hit it dead on it's side. Lions are known to pass on attacking them, because they can be that dangerous. Their hide is thick and tough, and the tusks can, easily, be fatal. Sorry for the nature lesson, Got carried away.

15:14 to answer your question: Jeremy Irons sang the first half of the song, but damaged his vocal chords during the line “you won’t get a *sniff* without me!”, so they brought in Jim Cummings to sing the second half for him. I’m actually surprised you caught onto the fact there were two different singers, the transition is so seamless it’s almost impossible to tell! Edit: fun fact; Timon & Pumbaa originally didn’t exist, but Nathan Lane & Ernie Sabella (Timon & Pumbaa, respectively) were so funny while auditioning for the hyenas that the writers created the characters just for them. Now *that* is true talent!

For anyone confused, Rafiki is the animal equivalent of a shaman. He does not smell Samba, but he seems to "read the leaves" so to speak, and learn that Samba is alive. If you’re curious some fun facts are: - He was only offered to write the score if he got actual African artists to assist/be featured on the soundtrack (he worked with a real African choir and with Lebo who sings that famous opening) - Part of the reason he wanted to do the movie was because his own father had died and he has said the score was like an ode to him and the love he had for his dad Great reaction as always btw 🥰

11:30 In theater, moving right is progression, and left is return. This is obeyed really well in this movie. Fun fact: Avatar’s Ember Island Players flipped Zuko’s scar for this very reason. He was banished (towards the right) with his scar a visible shamed then returned (left) with it upstage and hidden behind his honor. When in reality, Zuko returned (scar visible) and found shame, then left (right) on the clear path. 14:50 In Greek poems, the heroic pattern is short-short-long. Scar tries to imitate this, believing his vision is best and heroic. But not only is he syncopated and half a beat off, but his short-long-short pattern isn’t a named poetic rhythm. This shows his madness long before the deleted song Madness of King Scar. 15:15 Scar’s actor lost his voice on the final verse. The actor who voiced Ed (laughing Hyena) took over. And he’s also the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Anastasia’s Rasputin.

The live action version is more or less a shot-for-shot copy of the original, but with everything that made the original symbolic and cool taken out (like the sun symbolism, the circle of life). You can skip it, you won't miss anything.

I think the live version shows one of the rare times where a cartoon is actually better for storytelling. The characters in this are animals, so when they are cartoons its much easier to anthropomorphize the animals into doing certain human gestures, and conveying human emotions on their faces.... with real animals it just comes off detached and cold for the most part.

@@KS-xk2so it’s not that rare.. both the live action movies based on “Avatar the last airbender” and “Dragon Ball Z” where horrible as well
@KS-xk2so
@KS-xk2so 2 жыл бұрын
@@ragnarlothbrok936 I meant rare for the Disney live remakes. I'd argue the examples you gave were a mess for vastly different reasons than the Lion King remake. The Avatar movie was plagued by a director and studio who didn't get the source material and did fuck all to try and honour it. The Dragon Ball Z movie just didn't have the budget. You need 200 million to make that movie right.
@Rotolutundro
@Rotolutundro 2 жыл бұрын
@@KS-xk2so Everything in a hand-animated movie is planned out to the last detail, and that love of the craft shows. The storytelling is 100% better than in any of the remakes. The remakes offer nothing special, other than for people who look down on animation to feel like they aren't watching an animated movie. I do agree that the animals in the CGI "live action" Lion King were pretty much expressionless, a choice the director made despite actual animals actually having a wide range of expressions he could have gone with. It was just a bad movie all around.

Same thing happened to me. Watched it when I was way to young, didn’t understand it or appreciated it. Then rewatched it when I was about 14 and became absolutely enraptured. It’s a classic for a reason, the story the characters THE MUSIC. The intro it’s one of the best I’ve seen. Definitely one of my favorites. Ps. The little “NO” you let out at 7:39 when Mufasa talks about his time as king coming to an end one day it’s both hilarious and sad.

BEST - DISNEY - MOVIE - *EVER!* I know every single line and song by heart in Italian,both of this and"The Lion King 2",I've spent my whole elementary school playing this(both movies,1&2)with a couple of my classmates and,to these days,if I have to wait more then 1/2 hour to do something,I start to repeat the movie by heart in my mind to make time passing faster and I can do it even if I haven't watched it in *YEARS!* 🦁 The remake has an amazing CGI,but I consider it a personal *INSULT* for a variety of reasons,from the changes in the plot and the lines to the changes of voice actors,some inevitables,but still with AWFUL replacements,to the fact the animals have *ZERO* facial expressions and,because of that,they can't communicate their emotions properly! I *HATE* that movie with my burning soul!!!!!😡🤬🔥 Also"The Lion King 1/2"has _some_ nice things in it,but I will *never* forgive them for making fun of the awsome opening scene of the original movie!😣💢

You released this on ly 27th birthday! The Lion King actually came out the year I was born and is 27 years old as of 2021. I performed briefly in The Lion King Musical when it was in my city when I was young, and I learned all the songs in and performed at Her Majesties Theatre. One of the first movies I remember watching when it was just me and my mum sitting on milk crates in a tiny home is The Lion King 1 & 2, I studied classical literature and drew comparisons of the adaptation and paralells of Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet respectively in the two films when I was in high school. The Lion King is so special and nostalgic to me, and to log in and see this be released on my birthday was like a wonderful nostalgia bomb, so thank-you so much!

I was 14 when this movie came out in 1994. At the time, I became more and more obsessed with this film the more I learned about it. I watched every Behind the Scene feature on TV. I read every book. I got the How to Draw Lion King book and The Art of The Lion King for my birthday and would stare at the drawings for hours. Watching the movie was amazing and even now, it is very powerful. The relationship between Simba and Mufasa is a powerful one. This movie will always remind me of my relationship with my dad for a number of reasons. Besides the lessons of responsibility, there is also the music by Elton John. My dad introduced us all to his music very early in our lives and it has become something that we all bond over. My father and my brothers--we all have our own musical tastes and interests. But the music of Elton John is one of those things we all have a deep love of and so this movie is very special to me on so many levels.

You saw the movie 17 times? Must've gotten expensive. But I saw the movie more recently, never saw it as a child. I'm 20 now. I watched it, and ended up a gay furry.

My daughter was, like 2, when the video tape came out and she watched it EVERY SINGLE DAY. Then she discovered that when the video finished and auto-rewound, she could push the tape back in and it would start over so she could watch it more than once a day! Then, after more than a year, when she had finally started getting bored of watching it EVERY SINGLE DAY and started getting interesting in things like that purple dinosaur (does it tell you something, that we found flippin' BARNEY a relief?) her little brother wanted to watch Lion King EVERY SINGLE DAY. We wore that video tape OUT. In many ways, this movie is the pinnacle of Disney's animation. Every frame is an amazing piece of art. The voice acting is perfect. The score deserved every academy award it won. And the script was perfect. (The only real downside of the movie is how much Disney - the company that will issue a cease and desist order for drawing three circles on your school peechee - was ripping of the classic Japanese manga/animated series _Kimba the White Lion_ without giving any credit to Tezuka.)

Thank you for noticing how much Scar had already shattered Simba's self confidence by manipulating him to think he caused his own father to die. Now we don't know how Simba's character arc would have turned out had he remained just a spoilt brat like that but still he was "scared" for his whole life by this incident which is not good for a child. Also you're one of the only reactors who actually notice and appreciate Rafiki's fighting styles which for me is an really underrated scene and how Rafiki made him realize his worth. In the end all comes together as circle of life. By the way it's actually Simba's daughter at the end. You need to watch the 2nd movie, her story is also great and you'll see how much Scar has traumatized Simba for life.
