The Lion King - Lioness Hunt (LYRICS & TRANSLATIONS)

One of my favourite numbers from The Lion King on Broadway, The Lioness Hunt. Full lyrics on-screen, with my own original translations of the isiZulu lyrics.
And for fun, some isiZulu vocabulary used in the song: :)
*Baba - father
*Zingela - hunt
*Siyozingela - we are going to go hunting. Zulu verbs are made up of multiple parts that in English we express with different words. There is the subject concord which indicates the subject of the sentence (Si - we), a tense marker which indicates when this action happens (yo - future tense, are going to) and a verb root (zingela - hunt).
*Thatha - take, keep
*Uye - go toward [it]
*Ukunqoba - victory, to win

The song is in Zulu, however the majority of phrases used in the movie and novel are Swahili and the movie takes place in the Serengeti, which is primarily in Kenya, also where Mt. Kilimanjaro is located. Before you get an urge to visit, remember Kenya is one of the least tourist-friendly places in Africa (and that's saying something).

I saw The Lion King at the Paramount Theater in Seattle and this scene was my favorite out of the whole musical! I recognized it as a lioness hunt when they froze the first time the antelope danced across the stage. Such a beautiful scene of femininity, power, grade, circle of life, and the core of the pride.

@bobfari Glad you like the video! As I understand it, to winnow is to sift through something (figuratively or literally) and "weed out" the bad while leaving the good. In the context of the hunt I figured it meant to single out the preferred prey animal. I will certainly admit that it wasn't a translation I was particularly confident with, but it seemed to fit.

@bobfari I am anything but fluent! What little Zulu I know is self-taught, and while I can do simple translations if I have the lyrics, figuring out Zulu lyrics is a painfully slow process for me. It's a very pretty song, but I'm not up for transcribing right now! If you have a copy of the lyrics I can try to translate them. :)
