Teep Exactly. If Snow White has managed to be beloved, watched by families, and still talked about today for over 80 years, then that’s saying something. Everytime these remakes come out, I only see Hot Topic/Spencer’s merchandise of the original animated films that it’s based on, the remake is briefly talked about for a few weeks, swept under the rug, and we go back to talking and loving the original ones, so what’s the point of these?
@KingRandor82
@KingRandor82 5 жыл бұрын
@@Lauren_210 the Aladdin merch is already on Clearance at Target. I think the point is for Disney to make some quick cash to cover their debts for all the acquisitions, and low park turnouts. It's funny: Toy Story 4 was meant to generate more excitement for the area of the park. I....don't think it did.
@dragoncatoverload

I really wish people would start respecting animation more. The only reason we have all these live action remakes is some mix of nostalgia and the belief that live action/realistic automatically makes it better and more adult. Oh also gonna be interesting to see how well this ages. The more realistic something tries to look the worse it tends to age. Because usually when something is more realistic looking it’s using the most high end effects at the time and those effects eventually get outdated. There are some major exceptions though

The scene with the mouse (in the original) is awesome. When you first see it you don't realize what's going, but then when you rewatch it you get a preview of just HOW DIFFERENT Scar is compared to his brother, all the way down to their versions of "the circle of life" and Scar's lack of respect for life and its circle. Then at the end when Simba comes back home and Pride Rock is just dead, it's Scar's outlook taken to its most logical conclusion. It's just one of the reasons why the original is one of the best.

If you want to see Disney successfully pull off animated realism, don't look to any of their modern films, go all the way back to 1940s, with Bambi and the Rite of Springs segment in Fantasia. Bambi, in spite of the deliberate push for realism, still had to caricature the deer to connect with the audience and to have their dialogue seem natural. The dialogue and the story were also quite simple and sparse, driving home the naturalism aspect of the film. For the Rite of Springs, Walt's mandate was NOT to humanize the dinosaurs, to present them as powerful beasts. It also helps that the dinosaurs DO NOT talk. They look and act like dinosaurs. The end. And even then, they put in subtle forms of animated acting to have the audience be emotionally connected to the dinosaurs. It's pretty bad when Disney of today with sophisticated VFX cannot pull off what Walt Disney and his team of 2D animators with their primitive tools did nearly a century ago.

You know a movie like this leaves no lasting, emotional mark on an audience, especially after the scene where Young Simba and Mufasa have their powerful discussion just after Mufasa saves his son and Nala from the hyena is shot from behind them (Meaning we, as an audience, get to hear the conversation while only seeing the backs of the two lions). Because, as you know, that kind of shot leaves a much bigger emotional impact than the original movie, in which Mufasa is shown with actual expression that show a great character and bond he has with his son. Not to mention how, in some scenes, the dialogue is pushed to a fast pace that we barely get time to process what happened, like when Simba and Nala reunite as adults. Nala instantly recognizes him without question... And there's hardly any emotional buildup around it. Even the voice actors themselves don't put much effort into their roles sometimes. When I hear Beyonce, I hear just her voice... I don't see and/or hear a Nala, and I swear that Donald Glover was trying to audition for Black Panther 2. Finally, some of the new dialogue they either added or replaced from the original film sounded it like it came from the writers of The Lion Guard, because, yes, nothing's funnier and more amusing than listening to humor and dialogue meant for preschoolers and kindergarteners in a epic film such as this.

See I'm gonna shameless plug Andy Serkis' Mowgli Legend of the Jungle on Netflix because what he did was even though a majority of the cast is CGI animals, he had them take their faces and the faces of the animal they were playing and find a sweet spot where it was clear who was playing the role and yet it was still an animal. Benedict Cumberbatch's Shere Khan being the best example followed closely by Christian Bale's Bagheera. Or even Andy Serkis's work in the Planet of the Apes films, or heck, the 2016 Jungle Book because again, certain characters, namely Bill Murrary and Christopher Walken you can see the performance in the CGI Animal. Disney has all the money in the world to dump on these films, and boy does it show money alone does not make a film.

You know how satisfying it is to hear Rob call out Doug on his criticisms that don't make sense? I can't tell you how many times I've been watching one of Doug's vlogs and gone "Wait, what's he complaining about?" Like in Wreck-It Ralph, where he thought the finale should've brought back all the video game cameo characters to fight Turbo (they didn't because that's not what the movie is about). Or in The Incredibles 2, where he wonders why the villain didn't just kill her brother to get him out of her way (because she was doing all that to help him, duh). Doug has a real common tendency to miss the big picture and get confused by smaller details because of it, and I'm glad Rob is aware of it.

Something like "Homeward Bound" has voices that match the characters, but what they say also makes sense as being the thoughts of dogs and cats. Sassy refers to the sandbox as "the big litter box." Shadow gets concerned that the family has been gone too long and that something must be wrong. Chance doesn't trust anyone in a uniform because he had a bad experience at the pound. In "The Lion King," there's an intricately thought out plan of how to become the king, as well as contemplation on who you are and where your place is in the world. They don't act or think like animals so it doesn't come off right.

14:14 -- This is a popular complaint these days. Personally, I can't imagine thinking "the voices of these TALKING ANIMALS need to be consistent with the group of people who live on this continent in real life in order for this film to make sense." Also, accents in Disney films have never, ever made sense, nor do I think they need to. All the Disney Princesses have American accents (Aurora, in particular, has a Southern accent, y'all.) KING ARTHUR has an American accent. Robin Hood has a British accent, but then Little John has an American accent! And they're a fox and a bear! There's nothing wrong with having a mostly black cast, either. Just when you're dealing with talking animals, I think anything goes.

Pretty much any "this movie about *insert fantastical concept here* isn't accurate enough so I can't get invested" has always irked me a bit. Don't get me wrong, if a film is heavily based in a country's culture, it kind of goes without saying that you'd want to be as close to that culture as you can be for immersion and to show a positive representation (especially if the cast are humans because...well, duh), but when the film is well beyond the realms of reality, my top priority isn't exactly, for example, "why the fuck is the talking spirit dragon from imperial China voiced by an American comedian?"

BRENT PARKER I’ve never really gotten this issue that other people seem to have (in this case with Doug and Rob, the original movie’s cast being mostly white actors). The thing is that the original was an animated movie that required only a voice cast to play the characters (and it’s a movie that has only animal characters and no humans), so the race of the actors didn’t matter. The directors for the original movie didn’t give a shit as to whether the cast was black or white. They hired actors like Matthew Broderick, Moria Kelly, James Earl Jones, etc., because they felt that those actors would fit the characters they wanted them to portray and the cast did very well with bringing those characters to life with so much personality. In Samurai Jack, yes, the main character is an Asian character and is voiced by Phil LaMarr (a black voice actor), but he fits the character very well and you’re not seeing the actor on screen when watching that show, so race doesn’t matter. Now, if you had a live action movie that does has a cast playing human characters on screen, takes place in the real world in a specific place, and/or is a period piece, then I would see the race of the cast being more of a concern. It would matter more especially if you’re making a biopic movie that’s about a real person (so if you were making a biopic about Abraham Lincoln, you cannot hire an Asian or Black actor to play him).

Same here, though when I watched it myself (though not in theaters cause I didn't want to give my money for that shit), both Doug and Rob's separate discussions about the movie represented my two halves when it came to how I felt about it. I felt true anger cause the original is my favorite movie of all time and made me rage inside my head when watching how much they bastardized crucial scenes and characters while with Rob and Brad, it represents my cooling off after initial watching and having a civilized discussion with a friend of mine who also hated the movie.

I went to see this. It really was a corps of a movie. I was sitting thru the whole thing thinking how soulless is was. That was constantly on my mind and how they were just hitting the seens but alot of it was like puzzle pieces that were mashed together and not fitting. The movie didnt make me mad per say, but what really made me mad was Disney is getting rewarded big time for this. This was to me the most laziest directed, rushed, slapped together, soulless emotionless movie i ever seen. Scar was the worst! Ugh! He was a great villain! I was shocked by the big can you feel the love tonight that had no love and was not at night! Oh and it wasint Serabi Scar was originally hitting on, it was Nala. Thats why she ran.

Here's some questions you should ask yourself about why the 2019 Lion King made any money at all. #1: Did this Lion King have any competition? By the way, if you go to Box Office Mojo to look, you will see that it is quite obvious that it didn't. #2: How much pandering (merchandising, for example) did Disney do to little children to turn them into whiny brats so as to force their parents to take them to this piece of crap film just to shut them up? A LOT. #3: Is Disney banking on H.L. Mencken's quote "nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public"? ABSOLUTELY they are. If they weren't, they would still be making GOOD films.

I liked it on a visual level quite a bit for different reasons than the original one. I guess I'm just a wildlife movie sucker. Plus this one weirdly enough made me think as opposed to the original one where I couldn't really take it all to seriously beyond the visuals.

I remember seeing the Lion King when it came out in theaters and really enjoying it (was about 10 when it came out). Looking back, I think Lion King was the best Disney movie of that era, here are the reasons I like it: It does not follow the traditional Disney formula of a princess, does not have a fairy godmother, there are a few Elton John Songs I like and his music works with the movie, the struggle to become the King makes it feel like a medieval drama, It is willing to get dark and dark in a way not traumatic to kids and does not use magic (no transforms , not pumpkins turning into carriages). I would go one step further and say that Lion King is a Disney movie that is the most unDisney like. From what I remember, in most Disney movies, no ones job or position was questioned or challenged (I think in Pochahantas, there may have been a mutiny). I like that Simba has to fight to regain what is his. There is a level of goofiness in Lion King, but only for the secondary characters and does not directly effect the main plot (I think the murcat character dresses in drag in a scene, its been a long time since I have seen the original LK). The 2 guys reviewing the Lion King mentioned Beauty and the Beast. If they are talking about the animated movie from the early 90's, I remember the battle sequence near the end. I think there was a scene where one of the guys in Guston's "army" was somehow sucked into a wardrobe and came out in a dress, kind of funny but it softens the impact of the climax. Imagine Simba in a dramatic scene, and then someone made a silly joke, it would take something away from the scene, make it less meaningful. There was a time when "I have a lovely bunch of coconuts" was a funny catch phrase, was more relevant around the time of the release of the original.

I love how so many are mad that this movie is a copy of the original and yet if Disney had done something different with it, like told the story from Scar's point of view to make him the good guy, those same people would be complaining that Disney had "ruined a classic". Yes, it'd be better if Disney simply started making original content again, but if these remakes must exist, I'd say better aim for the nostalgia than fuck up the story by adding whatever plot elements are trendy right now. And yes, I saw the movie yesterday and enjoyed it. So there.

Well people who judge movies professionally don't think it's good and you like it anyway. No big deal, we all like stuff that's not particularly good every now and than, one of my favourite games on PC got a ~30% average rating and I've no doubt that's completely fair due to it's many problems. There's no reason to doubt low scores just because you like something, it's fine to like trash even unironically.

@@Kaefer1973 Yes, I'm aware of the concept of "guilty pleasures", thank you very much. However, I don't understand why people are SO ANGRY at this film, saying it's the worst of the Disney remakes so far simply because it was almost the original word-for-word, shot-for-shot. The trailer made it pretty clear that's what the film was going to be, so what's with everyone acting so shocked? Also, to some, this is the WORST of the remakes? Really? Worse than "Beauty and the Beast", which added a bunch of unnecessary and confusing plot elements, turned the leading lady into Emma Watson wearing Belle's skin because "OMG, Emma was Hermione!!!!!", and somehow managed to add even more bestiality undertones than the original with Belle's "How would you feel about growing a beard?" line? No, "The Lion King" remake will never replace the original or come close to it, but I'm just saying, compared to what Disney's done to update their other classics, it just seems "vanilla" to me to simply dress up the original script in CGI animation. In short, while of course people are free to dislike the movie, I don't see what the more viciously angry reactions are about. To me, Disney's done worse recently.

Dont have a problem with Matthew Broderick as older simba. Knowone had a problem with James earl Jones voicing darth vader. This movie's existence was never demanded (by the audience anyway) However, the new version entertained me. I liked the secondary characters far more than the main characters. To me these voice actors were the standouts: Keegan-Michael Key (as Kamari, hyena), Eric André (as Azizi, hyena), Alfre Woodard (as Sarabi), Florence Kasumba (as Shenzi, hyena leader), Billy Eichner (as Timon) and Seth Rogan (as Pumbaa). These voice acted characters needed much more screen time and way more dialogue. John Oliver made me laugh, but more because I was imagining him doing his HBO show as Zazu.. The most sharp critics of all, the children in the audience, while not cheering Simba on, were well-behaved and reasonably still. Just one question, why do parents of young children take them up to the higher level of seating, in the middle of a row knowing their little ones have little bladders. So children's behavior 👍 , parental behavior 👎.
