You know, @J's Blu rays, I saw something similar with the Special Edition VHS of Mulan from 2004 on eBay as well that one also has a Blue Tape Casing with the black label.

VHS discontinued entirely in 2007, although in 2008, national geographic still did vhs for one more year....

The Lion King 1 1/2 is a retelling of the first Lion King with Timon and Pumbaa’s backstory, and what’s interesting about that is that it was released on the 10th anniversary of the first Lion King. In the UK, it is called The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata.

The VHS tape for Monsters inc is blue too but all blue with the name in white print.

Wow i believe the Special Edition tape is apparently far more rarer than the original 1995 VHS was, because most people by the time this came out likely already had the latter or just went for the DVD. Also another note is that on the Platinum DVD the non SE version isn't completely the original, because they went back and subtly changed some shots of effects and the like for the IMAX theatrical re release the year before. The main thing that's different between the two is the then newly added song "The Morning Report" which had been deleted during production then animated later much the same as with "Human Again" for Beauty and the Beast's Special Edition, as basically what you have is the same overall cut for both but the so called original edition has the song not present and the scene plays out as it did in theaters for the pre IMAX version. The only releases to have the original original version is the '95 VHS and Laserdisc either through the standard or collector's edition releases.

I have The Lion King on VHS. Although, my copy is the normal version and not the special edition. Also, I'm pretty sure I've had The Lion King VHS tape since at least 2001 or 2002, before KZbin even began in 2005.

I own the Black tape with dark sticker label version, AKA: the uncommon version. You got the much cooler, common Blue version.

The only other Blue VHS tapes I know of are The Pacifier and Blue's Big Musical Movie (Which used a darker shade of Blue.). Neither of which I own yet, but if I find them, I will buy them.

Its a 2003 vhs this was release on vhs and dvd on the same day when lion king was first released on dvd in 2003 most people had the 1995 vhs the orignal release because it was the #1 buying video ever in 1995 but then its time to watch a classic movie on dvd so lets release it on dvd now but they did had a vhs counter part too becuase vhs and dvd were both still main formats and the 2003 vhs and dvd release had an extra song and scene called morning report so yeah

It didn’t really make sense to throw lion king in the extra monsters Inc tapes Finding Nemo was released the same year as this vhs and they should have thrown that inside the extra monsters inc tapes because blue would fit more in that to match the ocean water from the movie!

Well the Monsters, Inc. logo is blue and one of the main characters, James P. Sullivan, is blue so I think it's fitting that Monsters, Inc. got a blue VHS tape release.
