Hi quick question as to where to locate the harvi , the install has the solar POV on a sub board in the garage front of house , main db is in house DNO cupboard is at rear of house,. Would you put the two CT clamps in the main db with one on the line from the MCB to the garage monitoring the PV generation and the other on the tails to monitor the load on the cutout fuse Thanks for your help

I know I’m very late posting, but you can extend the cable on the CT transformer up to 100 metres using a single pair over CAT 5 or 6 cable. It can save having to purchase the Harvi, (Harvis are great, you should really buy one), and if you’re already running in the mains cable to the charger then it’s a piece of cake to run some Ethernet cable with it, although you’re not supposed to have it running right beside mains cable due to possible interference, but I have done it on a 40m run and it works great.

Having worked for a DNO as far as the placement of equipment on meter boards go, it was pretty common to find customers switchgear fitted on the same board.( 8 way consumer unit jammed in!) However if the meter board requires replacement especially on outside meter cabinets due to dampness or wood rot etc the rule was if the meter board contained only DNO equipment then we replaced the board as required, if the meter board has customers equipment on board then the meter board would be replaced at the customer’s cost.( think….supply cable cut underground, cablehead removed, metering business also involved to remove meters) So better to keep clear of the meter board.

Any tips on how you would integrate an Eddi with an existing Honeywell Evohome system that controls heating of radiators and can also independently bring hot water up to a set temperature? What I would like to happen is to use the Evohome to set the hot water set point temp and schedule (as I do now), surplus solar energy to be diverted to hot water first, then to the Zappi. IF hot water set point temp is reached, gas boiler will not come on, IF set point temp is not reached, gas boiler will fire up to heat the water.
@WoodieTwoGloves Жыл бұрын
Had solar PV installed last June. Eddie diverts to heat water via immersion. I did have to replace the thermostat within the immersion as we noticed the water was too hot. Now set at 65C, usually reached by mid day. Even if somebody turns on the gas boiler to heat the water boiler turns itself off after a minute as the water is already at 65C.

If your battery is AC coupled, you can add another CT clamp to your Eddi/Zappi/Harvi and set its type to “AC battery” in the settings.

is it reuqired to hook up to a grid CT to ensure enough power? I only need solar as the zappi already has the grid CT. But if the solar isn’t sending any power (eg night/cloudy day) will the harvi be off?

We'd add to this the Harvi doesn't have any physical connection to the mains supply as it's a self powered device.

@PETER WILSON being double insulated though doesn't in itself indicate that the insulation is rated for the highest voltage present, so the voltage rating of the insulation should always be confirmed.

hi , good video. can you tell me if you wired the zappi from the board using rcbo ? and is there already the rcd inside the charger ? where do we stand with the regs regards 2 rcd s on the same circuit?
@deang56222 жыл бұрын
The RCDs are covering different parts of the circuit so they are both needed if you want to protect the entire circuit and the user from electric shock risk. The RCD in the EV charger can only protect on its output. If a fault occurs on the output of the EV charger, then certainly the RCD in the EV charger will detect it and trigger. The first RCD that's in the consumer unit may or may not trigger. But as long as one of them does, it doesn't matter which. If the fault occurs between the consumer unit and EV charger, the RCD in the EV charger will not detect it, it can't. Only the consumer unit RCD can detect the fault. In this case, it's the consumer unit RCD which will trigger. A fuse or circuit breaker, as we know, protects against over current and it doesn't matter where in the circuit it is, as the live and neutral current is the same all the way around the circuit. But this is not the case for an RCD. The RCD can only protect what is downsteam from it, what is on its output.

Isn't the Harvi limited to 64 amp? Which could cause issues for some installs
@efixx3 жыл бұрын
No it can work up to 100A and can also be used in three phase supplies.
@ma9mwah3 жыл бұрын
This was in a recent technical bulletin by myenergi "If you connect the grid CT via our harvi, then you must ensure you don’t set a grid limit in excess of 65 amps as this is the maximum that harvi can effectively measure • We will shortly change the firmware to stop the setting of a grid limit in excess of 65 amps when the grid CT is connected via a harvi"
@robertsadler19163 жыл бұрын
I was told by myenergi technical that they do not recommend the grid CT to be connected wirelessly, and should preferably be wired. If the Harvi and Zappi lose contact, the Zappi will charge regardless of the grid demand, potentially overloading the main fuse.

Bit of a tangent, but if the Eddi is £3-400 plus install costs, compared to 60-80p per day of gas to heat hot water , adding an eddi to the system adds another year to the pay off of the solar PV is it really worth fitting for the moment at least?
@efixx3 жыл бұрын
All depends on your particular tariff arrangements. This house doesn’t have any export tariff so is literally giving the energy away.
@grant_HH3 жыл бұрын
@@efixx fair. I think my current import tariff means I'm limited to about 3p export, butt even then been quoted £1k for a zappi and as a replacement for an existing charger and seen that the v Eddi b is just shy of £400. Plus the cost of the hub. Water tank and EV charger at both in the garage as is the CU so probably don't need the harvi for that. It's deciding between doing one or both of those Vs £2k for an extra 5kwh of battery storage
@efixx3 жыл бұрын
Yes the battery storage is a great idea - then you can do some serious energy trading.
@korona31032 жыл бұрын
20 Litres of water takes about 1KwH to heat so even a small 120L tank is something like a 6KwH battery. Even if it cost £600 to install it's acually pretty decent. I'm looking for a way to integrate renewables with air conditioners and heat pumps so you can kick them in as additional dump loads. Hopefully in the future you can add washing machines and so on. Obviously the home owner can do all this but it should be easy to automate it all.
@grant_HH2 жыл бұрын
@@korona3103 agreed especially now that gas is 12p/kw instead of 3. Now I just need to decide between the Eddi & the iBoost

There is an assumption here that is going to get people into trouble. That fuse holder is rated to 100A, that does NOT mean the DNO fitted a 100A fuse. Many have 60A or 80A fuses and unless you cut the seal (which you are not permitted to do) then you are just guessing the value. You could ring the DNO and ask them what fuse they installed and I will buy you a pint if they tell you...
@efixx3 жыл бұрын
When you install an EV charger you submit a permission to connect ( ENA ) form. At this stage the exact rating of the fuse will be clarified by the DNO.
@MarkC-19703 жыл бұрын
@@efixx Interesting, I am quite new to EV and learning every day. My understanding was that you notified within 28 days and only needed permission if you identified a potential problem. I have done a bit of reading and apparently that is only below a MD of 60A. Like I say I am learning every day. This seems to pose an interesting catch 22 then and I would like to know what happens. Are the DNO's sending an engineer out to check the main fuse value before they allow you to proceed or are they just saying they are happy for the work to proceed if they have no network issues? If it is the latter then you have to set the Zappi to tap out at 60A anyway and so it is of no benefit to contact the DNO in the first place.

You can stick anything you like in the meter box. It's the property of the homeowner not the DNO, but they can ask you to remove anything if it impedes the install of their equipement. That's the simple answer. Don't believe anything else.
