I've had a fascination with "Jingle Bells" for some time now, and have over 500 different recordings of the song as released by various artists over the years. One thing continues to puzzle me: \when\ did the original melody of the chorus get changed? The one we sing today is very different from that in of the original sheet music in the Library of Congress. The tune was published in 1957, yet one of the earliest recordings -- by Edison in 1898 -- already has what we regard as the "modern" melody. Granted, that's some 40 years later... but still, one wonders exactly when the switch took place, and who may have been responsible for it.

So Bart Simpson actually made the song better. Interesting.
