Well, Aurora was under a curse, so it was probably some kind of entrancing siren-call type situation. But the rest don’t really have excuses. With Anna and Elsa, it was one mistake, they just need to learn to be careful. And I get Eric and Ariel trying to protect their daughter, but they could have moved somewhere that wasn’t right on the ocean they are trying to avoid, instead of staying there and hoping Melody just ignores her entire backyard.

@@not-so-happypappypatton Yes, but Athena died in an accident because some pirates couldn't see where they were going. But in Ariel's case, her child was directly threatened and so she really didn't have a choice but to keep Melody away from the sea until Morgana was caught. I don't think it was OOC for her to do this, she just made a mistake not telling Melody the truth earlier.

As much as I couldn't stand the prequel, I kinda liked the mother-daughter likeness. Mostly because it adds an extra layer to why Triton is even more over-protective of Ariel than his other daughters. He seems protective of all of them, but especially with Ariel. But, God, I hated the plot so much. I was so disappointed when I first saw it. I was hoping it would be more about Ariel first exploring the human world and growing attached to it, only for Triton to become more and more protective each time he catches her going to the surface after witnessing his wife die. I dunno, the whole banned music plot was tedious and dumb. And that's from someone who loves Ariel and the original movie most of all.
@iprobablyforgotsomething4 жыл бұрын
That would've been a much better movie. It didn't need to be more complicated, and the makers ignored that it was a perfectly valid reason on it's own to carry a movie. Say Ariel keeps going to the surface and finally almost dies like her mom, her dad saves her and is furious but also explains about her mom who he never talked about much before. Ariel agrees to stay away from the shore, but becomes sadder and sadder. She resolves to sneak away one last time and prove to herself there's nothing special up there, just dangerous two-legged folk. But then, Ariel maybe does something like while exploring, catches a favored toy that a little girl on a ship drops overboard and when the girl cries, stows away on the side of the ship like she did Eric's waiting for a chance to return it. As she does, she sees the girl with her parents and realizes her father is wrong and there are good people and things above, too. She sneaks the toy back on board and swims away. If they really had to include Melody, it should've ended with a scene where little Melody asks if that's when her mommy met her daddy, and Ariel smiles and tells her that's a story for another night, princess, now time for bed. There. That's literally off the top of my head in less than 5 minutes and it's already less-crap than the sequel. I never saw the entire prequel so can't say but I've probably got a 50/50-shot it's better than that, too. Maybe the re-written sequel, if it must exist, can feature Melody sneaking away past the safe-ocean boundaries to have an adventure like her mommy did and getting kidnapped by Ursula's sister, transformed into a mermaid so the human's can't find her, but rescued by her mermaid aunts, the sea squid is defeated by Triton, and Melody is returned to her mother, with promises to only visit safely and with permission. Ta-da. (and yes I meant sea-squid. half-sister, y'know. just for a little change-up.)

The thing that bothers me the most about Ariel’s Beginning is that it TOTALLY retcons how Ariel and Flounder first met! There’s an episode of the TV series of The Little Mermaid that shows their first meeting happen under different circumstances. So like, which one is canon? Probably the prequel, but idk maybe we’ll never know!!
@eowynsisterdaughter4 жыл бұрын
TV series, since that has continuity of character. Flounder in the prequel has virtually no shared personality traits with original Flounder.

Eowyn Sisterdaughter: see I personally think the same! But, and this is insider info, if you ask Ariel at the Disney Parks “how did you meet Flounder?”, she’ll answer with the story from the prequel and not with the story from the series. The Disney Parks don’t see the series as part of the official canon that they use to train the character performers. so idk what to think!!
@eowynsisterdaughter4 жыл бұрын
@@whatdoyousuppose *I think it means they don't understand character development and weren't willing to research their own lore. * If Ariel's beginning is their canon start, that means Flounder went through something enormously traumatic, or that hanging out with Ariel erodes his confidence. Kinda depressing. The TV series meeting makes their relationship more wholesome.
@whatdoyousuppose4 жыл бұрын
@@eowynsisterdaughter No the TV series literally isn't included at all in her character training guide lol I've seen it. Sucks because I love the TV series too! but a lot of performers go out of their way to reference it anyway even if it isn't officially part of their training material, especially if a guest asks them about characters like Urchin or Gabriella

I think this was the whole "History repeating itself" concept. As I hate her, well-child Ariel. This made me love her, as she finally grew up. She is basically in her father's shoes now, as her child plays out her younger self. And she now realizes what she did to her father, on a daily bases. BUT! Ariel knew how to act better, and not overreact (too much) as her father did.
@vetarlittorf18074 жыл бұрын
Technically, Ariel was a better parent to Melody than Triton was to her. She was patient with her, she did her best to raise her as a normal girl and she seems to offer her emotional support regularly. And unlike Triton, Ariel's motive to keep Melody away from the sea was to protect her from an actual threat.
@not-so-happypappypatton4 жыл бұрын
Vetarlit Torf Triton was probably paranoid. His wife died from humans, so he saw them as a threat from that. He still didn’t need to yell at Ariel constantly though.

TLM 2 was one of the few Disney sequels that actually had potential. The setup was decent, Melody is a likable character and the emotional conflict between Melody and Ariel felt like it could've gotten somewhere. But unfortunately the movie starts getting lazy after the first 15 minutes and just starts becoming generic and rushed.

I feel like the animation is really good quality compared to the sequel and improved from the original. Also the mom is just like so beautiful, one of my only critiques of the film is that there isn't a lot of her mother when she is literally the prettiest and nicest character. Also I really like the secret night club as a kid I thought it was really cool. Probably the reason I like it so much is because it was the prettiest movie I saw as a kid.
