I think it does make sense. It seems like in recent world events, we haven't had the kind of open water slugging matches between large navies or ship squadrons the way we did in the Spanish-American War, WW1 and WW2. Operations instead seem to be heading toward smaller scale confrontations near enemy coasts. I guess I can understand why the Navy felt there was a need to develop this type of warship. She looks very sleek and futuristic too. =)

Vid is a little out of date, they are no mission packages as it proved too expensive and too much work to swap them around, the crew size has increased massively and the reinforcements required to stop the hull cracking have prevented the ship planing reducing the speed considerably. A trainwreck of a project all round.

Love it when smartasses pipe up, and don't have a clue as to what they are saying..Anyway..Well, without going into great detail, there were several reasons why LMCO and GD purchased different foreign radars for their designs. SPY radars require an enormous amount of power, even for the smaller variants. There are also LCS power issues and size/weight of the arrays are an issue also with each design. TRS-3D (LMCO) and Sea Giraffe (GD) satisfied their requirements as far as cost is concerned.

@hotpocketpoison saving lives more important. leave the mass killings to the Arleigh Burkes and Ticonderogas. besides, may also put uav helicopter on that ship like MQ-8 Fire Scout or Schiebel Camcopter S-100. I believe one of the main objective of this ship is to minimize collateral damage.

It's fast-action ship, not a battleship, 2 main weapon systems is all it needs especially with the computerised targeting systems that thing has. Let's see it drop 200 57mm armor-piercing autocannon rounds per minute onto your kitchen table, then you can tell me how "gay" it is.

You want light weight? Magnesium is even lighter than aluminum! Or, LCS could be made more stealthy if built of wood. Hmm... made of wood. Not a bad idea, actually. Lower RCS, not prone to cracking, and would float higher in the littoral water. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young had it down... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWecfWWjhJ6sY5Y

First off our Frigates are 30 years old and are terrible war fighting ships, on top of that we don't even have ANY Corvettes
@AindriasHirt6 жыл бұрын
beastlybob2011 I think that these are the new usa corvettes. Personally, I don't see why we can't have a water tank. A trimaran with an Abrams weapon system stripped of armour tucked inside with zero height above water. It could incorporate GPS and a link system for positioning and a hybrid drive like a hybrid automobile (electric motors on the stern of each of the three semi submersible pods driven by a diesel engine tucked in the bowels of the water tank). The muzzle would be below the prow of the main pod and enclosed. Enclosed machine guns like the German tanks in WWII on the sides and aft. You could put harpoons in the prows of the outer pods. It could be manned or a drone. If manned, you could send in SEALS in the main pod. There is absolutely no reason to have a high superstructure today. It could be almost flat and semi-submersible. It would be awesome in anti-pirate ops since they'd never see you coming, would have long range and a f*cking cannon that is designed to track, shoot, and put ordnance on a moving target. They could just shadow cruise ships going near pirate-infested waters. You could also tuck them at/below sea level near rocky shores and have them roar out at a blue-water ship, fire harpoons, and drop below the surface to evade ASW countermeasures... Seems like a cheap no-brainer for littoral ops and better than an old-style mentality of have corvettes as high-riding mini destroyers/frigates...

This narrator is why companies use _a spokesperson_. You think Ronald Reagan was a production manager? Project manager? Contract manager? In fact, do you think he had any technical background whatsoever? Nope. He just communicated well (though what he said was often demonstrably false, and he was made aware of it, but continued to do it anyway). Made it to President, too. It's the _style_, not the _message_, dude.
