Ohio State won comfortably but the Buckeyes leave the Marshall game with a few more questions than before their recent "improvement week."
Former Ohio State players Bobby Carpenter and Bradley Robinson join THE Podcast's Austin Ward and Jeremy Birmingham-as well as Roosters Nicole Cox-to discuss that game and more as the Buckeyes head into the first Big Ten battle of the season at Michigan State.

Truth be told. The beauty of what we have in Columbus is an incredibly deserved high bar of expectations to be cleared every week. We can't forget its kids off a bye week in wk 3. As militant as I want to be, the fact the o-line is exceeding expectations, the back field couldn't look better, and there is so much depth allows me to enjoy every single moment as a lifelong Buckeyes fan.

The Marshall game was good to have exactly as it played out. Now we get to see the defensive leadership both players and coaches and how they respond vs a BIG10 team that's better than we thought when we saw the schedule come out

Notice how balanced and strong in contact Judkins looks because he at all times keeps his feet under his center of gravity. T. Henderson all to often in the past had a bad habit of leaving his feet prior to and during contact, but no more. What an awesome combination. In all my 55 years of watching OSU, I have never seen the likes of it to play in that stadium.

I think the defense is fine. Only giving up 14. Don’t give up a score in the second half and only 61 total yards in the second half. Just a rusty first half after both teams had a bye week.

Finally a comment on the defense that makes some sense, but that is not an excuse. When you are on the field constantly whether your offense is 3 and out, or scoring quickly, the defense is going to be gassed. If you are sucking wind it does not matter how talented you are, but you might have a physical conditioning issue.

Few fans are happy because we see the video replay. The o-line, as in the past 3 years, continues with a blocking technique that includes standing up, letting the defender get under pads, surrendering leverage, then just trying to lean on the defender and turn the them away from the hole. Even on long run plays you can see it, and I am afraid that bigger, stronger, more athletic defenders will blow these blocks up, penetrating to the running back in the backfield as we have repeatedly seen in the past. Do we teach our guys how to fire off the ball, staying low, and driving the defender down field? Please tell me that I am off the mark, exaggerating, or being hyperbolic and overly critical in my analysis.

THE REFEREES WERE TERRIBLE THROUGHOUT MOST OF THE GAMES ON SATURDAY. EVEN SOME OF THE MEDIA PEOPLE WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT ON DIFFERENT GAMES. TOO SLOW REACTION TIME ON CALLS. ESPECIALLY ON REVIEWS!

Bend don't break, the opponents super bowl, poor player rotation, etc. All factors for sure, but the video does not lie. Where is the hair on fire, Ghost Rider, no mercy effort? Where are the fundamentals of blocking, tackling, reading and reacting, kicking the ball, etc. Hard to find save for the transfer players and an uncorrupted freshman.
