I’m glad Minari, Promising Young Woman and Sound of Metal got some Academy love. I’m super happy that Lee Isaac Chung and Emerald Fennel are both nominated for directing. Also, I’m happy Paul Raci was nominated as well as the movie for Original Screenplay and Picture.

Diane Warren should win, Seen is a better song than the other 4 nominees, but my concern is that the movie the Life Ahead only got 1 nod for original song while One Night in Miami got 3 Nods. In 2008 Falling Slowly won b original song from "Once" which only got 1 nod for original song only. Diane Warren has been nominated for 12 times, while the other 4 nominees were never nominated before. For God's sake, please give Diane Warren an Oscar 🙏

My suspicion about Ma Rainey's and One Night in Miami is that they simply didn't have the passion to get in. Considering that this is the sliding scale where you have to have a certain number of #1 votes to get in, it kinda makes sense that the films that did get in got in instead. Promising Young Woman is a movie with a hell of a lot of passion, I would know as it's my favorite movie of the year. It's a movie that gets #1 votes. Sound of Metal gets #1 votes, Nomadland gets #1 votes, Chicago 7 gets #1 votes, etc. Ma Rainey's and One Night can get #2s or #3s, but not a lot of #1s. Ma Rainey's isn't really a crowdpleaser and One Night in Miami isn't really cinematic. One Night also didn't have a super great campaign evidently. Amazon probably started campaigning Sound of Metal more heavily when it started getting more favorable audience reactions. That's my guess, but I could be talking out of my ass. Also, I'm not shocked that Sorkin missed. The Directors' branch is pretty snobby and cliquey. They like their auteur-y and stylish achievements, which Chicago 7 most certainly was not. Same with One Night in Miami. I'm so mad tho because I actually predicted Vinterberg in that 5th slot a week ago but switched to Darius Marder. I almost got 5/5 (I only got 5/5 on the Lead categories, my dumbass bet on Cherry in cinematography)

that year was sooo good! i liked almost all nominations, had some upsets here in there but just a few. in general i loved it! the academy is doing it right!

Not a crazy thought for Chloe Zhao to eclipse Walt Disney for a four Oscar night. Heck, its conceivable at this point for Nomadland to go six for six if you look at the individual races (although Best Actress is gonna be close, and I still give the Film Editing edge to Trial of the Chicago 7).

I hope Minari or Promising Young Woman will pull off an upset for Best Picture because I think those films are way better than Nomadland. Nomadland is a beautiful looking movie, but it gets slow at times. While Promising Young Woman and Minari are more enjoyable films to watch. I find they are more rewatchable than Nomadland. Minari is a nice film to watch if you like to watch something charming and sweet. Promising Young Woman is a nice film to watch if you are into revenge movies or thrillers.

So happy you brought up that history was made with 2 women finally being nominated for best director!! Crazy! Only 1 Oscar given for a woman in that category, and only 5 nominated previously! This is incredible and such an important stepping stone for future women in the industry! So happy! But I wish Regina King would have gotten nominated too cause that would have been so well deserved!!!

I think those who voted Lakeith in supporting probably voted Kaluuya in lead, but since supporting is a more open category, Kaluuya still got more votes in supporting. Both actors have less than 40% screen time in the film, so I can see if members debated who to put in supporting from the two?

The academy already recognized many Asian actors on the Best Supporting Actress section and the Best Supporting Actor section. I'm not saying they shouldn't get more chances, they deserve all the chances in the world their brilliance is undefeated. But us Bulgarians should get a chance once at least, I really hope she wins, she'll influence those little Bulgarian girls

*Sound of Metal & The Father are really good character study films for Future references.* Mads Mickelson & Delroy Lindo Snubbed. Mads should've been nominated instead of Gary Oldman. Mank deserved some Screenplay love. Pinocchio & Lakeith were surprise nominations. Ma Rainey & The Father are not Best Picture material in my opinion.

David Fincher should win for best director He has more experiences in directing than Chloe Zhao. He's been directing movies for 29 years since 1992 while Chloe first directed on 2015, only 6 years ago. Overall David Fincher is a better director than Chloe Zhao.
