This trailer is extremely misleading. It makes the film look like a lighthearted, quirky romantic comedy, when in reality, it is extremely dark and unsettling. I haven't felt so uncomfortable watching a movie in some time. That being said, it's outstanding. 10/10

This is where humour diverges. I found the film extremely funny. In the auditorium where I sat there were several moments when the entire audience laughed out loud. But still, it is a highly unsettling, extremely dark and uncomfortable film. But to be fair, so is the music in this trailer. So it's not that misleading after all. :)

@@leeluv96 It's really not Grand Budapest Hotel, the trailer is mean spirited in that way. The movie isn't quirky what you're seeing is the punchlines of jokes that never really land delivered in a weird high on GHC acting method. It looks funny for being so wacky but it just feels uncomfortable all the way through, there's no resolution, the word is never satisfyingly explored. Imagine Grand Budapest Hotel meets Hotel Artemis in the most awkward way with the cast of Twilight playing the roles.

@@michaelemminger4864, I saw the movie and I disagree. It is similar in it's approach. The reason the punchlines never landed is because they left them up to the viewer. Beyond poor production and half-hearted performances the movie is convoluted with imagery that doesn't carry it's surreal theme and culture shock that only works if the film is grounded in anything. I get it you know I totally understand the symbolism and how it pits couples and singles against each other and holds being part of a couple up as a kind of dream goal everybody is forced to aspire to, very clever. I also get how the rules of the film dictate they cant be together unless they have something in common, also they can't lie to each other as the bass of the relationship and everybody speaks in truths so I do understand why the ending is necessary/logical within the boundaries of the film. Having said that I never felt the film was clever enough to justify it's own purposeful sense of unease. It didn't really explore the themes deeper or leave me walking away asking myself new questions or rethinking current assumptions. The ending for me essentially was just a macabre "Would you rather" question. So yeah I agree it had potential but in my opinion the film never made use of the tools it laid out for itself with the premise and instead just served as depressing waste of an hour and a half in my personal opinion.

Our dog was on the bed sleeping in the same position as the dog on screen, and she had uncontrollable tears. We couldn't watch the rest, I had to watch it alone later. I honestly think the movie could have carried on without the gruesome scene, but that's just me. I'm all for gore filmography, but only when it's a gore film. Definitely a dark humor that is actually quite funny imo, especially the hotel host lady. The movie seemed slow but for a purpose. I kept thinking the ending would make up for it and it did in some senses. Seemed like a the whole movie was trying to poke fun at blind love, in a dark manner / funny / silly manner. Overall, didn't disappoint, would definitely watch again. But wouldn't list it as one of my new favorites. Really well made / written / shot movie no doubt.

Worth a look. It is useful to refresh the view of the mundane from another deeper side.

This zany idea seems like something the French would come up with, but it got adapted for anglo audiences. I'm intrigued now.

It's pretty good and is on Netflix as of April 2020. It's also distributed by A24.

Has a slight Wes Anderson feel except with less color, looks like fun though.

I just watched this film last night. I'd say it's more Charlie Kaufman territory.

I would say part Kaufman, part Kubrick.

Out of 100 I'll give it an 88, it's so unique and a very dark comedy, it's a good balance of humor and tragedy
