@@ISeeStarsQuilting I'm not 100% certain, but I believe I saw the machine tape used by Just Get It Done Quilts in one of her scrap videos. She cuts her fabric scraps into 2.5" squares and rectangles and sews them to the adding machine tape in the same manner (stitch and flip) that you did to the fusible. When the scrappy strip is complete, she tears away the machine tape, irons the strips and has a completed jelly roll strip. Just went to see if I was right. @@ISeeStarsQuilting It’s called gypsy quilter scrap tape. You can buy it in 2.5 and 5 inch rolls, from Amazon, Fat Quarter Shop and I think Missouri Star. I will say that you have to be careful about using a really hot iron on it directly as it can shrivel up a bit. But other than that it’s great!

Such a great idea. Thank you for sharing this Loco tip. I do wonder about the added weight of the fusible and what type of batting you will use in your quilt. I ask because I'm a new quilter and live in Texas and don't want to make anything too heavy or too hot. You know those fleece throw blankets that Walmart and other big box stores sell for super cheap (less than $5) this time of year? Do you suppose I could omit the batting and use those fleece throws for a backing fabric that would turn out okay?
@ISeeStarsQuilting2 жыл бұрын
Shelley, I'm in Houston :) totally understand the need for a quilt that's not too warm! I think you could use one of those cheap fleece blankets as a backing but my main concern with those would be the pilling of the fabric over time. It's cheap, made to be cheap and would definitely not last as long as your fabric on the quilt top. You could try wool batting or a thin cotton to keep it nice and light 🥰
@shelleyriley91302 жыл бұрын
@@ISeeStarsQuilting Well, to be honest, I buy those cheap blankets for my fur babies, so never really concerned myself with pilling or long term wear. I also replace them every year or two, so they don't stay around long enough to see how well they might last. LOL I'm still leaning toward omitting the batting and finding another solution for the backing. Maybe a good flannel? Possibly a better quality blanket? I don't know, but will let you know what I decide and how it turns out.
@lesa63992 жыл бұрын
@@shelleyriley9130 I’ve heard some will use a bed sheet as “batting” &/or backing & are very happy with the results. Pros & cons to everything, huh? 😉
@shelleyriley91302 жыл бұрын
@@lesa6399 I've seen a couple of people use the pretty, floral vintage bed sheets found in thrift stores for backing and their quilts turned out beautiful. I would like to try that some day. Even saw one lady use the vintage sheets for the front and back of a quilt and had it quilted up in a pretty design and that turned out really nice. Although, that method looked more like a store bought quilt/bedspread. I knew a poor country lady many years ago who made beautiful quilt tops from scraps of fabric and used a thicker Walmart style blanket as her batting/backing. That's where I got the idea from. Since I'm a new quilter, I'm just trying to get ideas and input from everyone.

If the interfacing is non fusable... I would just skip the ironing all together! Even easier 🥳 I will be doing a few online events this fall - not the full retreat unfortunately though. I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery and have to carefully watch my energy. But don't worry! I have some fun events coming up to get my girls together again! 😘 Keep an eye on your emails

Nice idea. Beautiful result - all those memories! I'm just wondering, is there 'give' to cutting the interfacing lengthwise or widthwise that we should be careful of? I'm looking forward to trying this! Thanks, Christen.

That is a very good question... and I have to say I do not know the official answer to give to you. When I was cutting it... I didn't notice anything inparticular either way. I cut it in a way that made it most easy to get strips that were close to the right size. I guess it might depend on the brand of interfacing too?

Oh I see a fellow Disney Nerd!! 🤩🤩🤩 It is an older printed shirt from Hot Topic, I think LOL It might have been Torrid? They were both faves of mine at the time for tees.

What kind of interfacing did you use? I might have missed what you said it was.
