I'm working on string blocks as an ongoing project. Every so often I work on a few. I'm using Grunge in black for my center strip, and I put a dab of glue from my school glue stick on each end to anchor that first strip - I find it's easier to get started on each block that way. BTW, I've owned a Juki TL2010Q for about 6 years & it's the greatest!

The Snarky Engineer strikes again! The helpful vocabulary moment and cheering you for only five uhms. It was the dark humour that really resonated, though, and caused giggles. LOL To save your grandchildren such trauma, or in case there are no extra colouring books laying about, phone books are another source of easily torn paper. I loved this block idea with the consistent colour in the center. The layouts you showed were great and helpful. There's also a chevron design. Coloring books! Great idea given the thin but stable texture, the tearability and the cost. I’d tell my grandkid, “Let’s hit the dollar store for two coloring books. You use yours for crayon art and I’ll use mine for quilting art.” No stealing, no tears. Also, I like to find a picture with a palette I love. Then I pull fabric in those colors. If you really stick to the palette, colors in your quilt will look great together.

I so agree about that consistent colour. I've done a few charity ones with a mustard of deep green centre strip. I much prefer strip piecing to sewing small squares.

Hum never thought about it but a 6” block makes a lot of since as you can use so much more of your scraps that are smaller in length. I crumb quilt but have wanted to try strings. Great video thanks

You could sew small pieces in same colors into strip size lengths & use up those little pieces and bits.

I so enjoy making string blocks; they are fun and a nice break between other projects. I used a black center strip down the middle while using up some Halloween scraps last fall. Made 2 fun bright table toppers! Right now I'm using up some navy blue leftover strips for the center and random scraps for the rest of the block. I will be buying a coloring book from $ store, that looks way easier to remove than the paper piecing paper I'm using now. Your Quilt is gorgeous!

I use squares of batting. After I sew them all I sew my roses and connect the rows. Then I tie the backing and do the binding. I’ve heard myself say, “no, I don’t like that” many times when making scrap quilts as far as color matching. Yours is really pretty too!
