WE ARE SO INCREDIBLY EXCITED!
Huge shoutout to Timberline Sawmill for such a smooth process of getting us the materials for the cabin of our dreams. In this week's video, we received the logs for our cabin package and do all the prep leading up to it!
A few weeks ago, we brought home a burl tree to use as our center post in our cabin by snowmachine. This was a fun adventure away from the cabins while we still have good snow on the ground and ice on the creeks!
Then Becca focused in for a day at the cabins to get some seed started before the storm of cabin building begins. The garden is still going to be very necessary to stay out in the wilderness of Alaska long term! We started with tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, pumpkins, and some flowers! THANK YOU to an amazing subscriber for sending us a seed packet of flowers. We cannot wait for them to bloom and get a nice pot to keep them in!
The day before the logs arrived, we brought down 20-some beetle-kill spruce trees to be used to keep the logs off the ground and then re-used either in the moose fence or throughout the cabin building! We want to do our loft railing with small peeled spruce trees and still have that moose fence to build this spring. Nothing like a good bonfire on a frozen pond to celebrate our logs coming in!
Without further ado, the logs arrive! We had a smooth delivery from Timberline Sawmill and await a few more deliveries of roofing materials, rafters, etc. It is so amazing to finally see the logs that we will call home though.
We obviously have a lot of work to do before we get to the logs. Part of the reason we had them delivered as soon as they were ready was to avoid the road to the homestead getting too muddy or any new snowstorms that could arrive. If they are on-site then we can simply start when we are ready!
Next is SNOW REMOVAL. All caps is necessary. There is some 3-4 feet of snow sitting in our cabin footprint and not only is that a lot of snow but most of it we will have to move by hand! The tractor is going to be very limited on what it can do to plow with the post holes already being dug and hiding under the snow. To the shovels! 😁
