Hiya £42 for a walk-up ride, what a pee-take! That’s £1.40 a minute…. Of course, the Eye is now owned by LEGO, well actually KIRKBI, the parent company who owns LEGO and Merlin. I’m surprised it’s not been rebranded the LEGO London Eye with brick-built London related figures! I’ve been incredibly fortunate enough not to have paid to ride the Eye. My brothers sister-in-law is very, very senior at Merlin. So, she’s always arranged for tickets when my brother is over from California. A couple of weeks ago he rode the big wheel in Vienna. He said he enjoyed that more!

First time I saw the London Eye was in a James Bond movie (No Time Too Die?) What a view from the top, such a clear day, like the WHO sang "You could see for miles and miles"

I did the London Eye during its first winter when it was a eye-watering £13.50, sponsored by British Airways and described as a flight! It was a lot quieter back then, maybe just 10 or 12 people per capsule (which with any luck only included one kid, at the most), so you could see quite a lot. But, it's just a big wheel - and especially now that you can see absolutely everything on KZbin anyway, I really don't see the point - and I certainly wouldn't pay £42 for the privilege. You were there on a particularly clear day, Darren, and I'm glad you enjoyed it - even without my company!

Our family friends took their very autistic Son up the eye. He's a great lad and we all think the world of him. Just before they spun round to the top , the two other people in the gondola signalled to each other with much comotion - the guy pulled out his DSLR and the rather attractive Woman threw off her coat and they proceeded to take some rather saucy x rated snaps . A good day was had by all.

When the London Eye opened in the year 2000, tickets cost £7.45 for adults, £5.95 for senior citizens, and £4.95 for children, with under-5s going free. If you pre-book today, Adult prices are £29, but if you buy at the Eye on the day it is £42. I was lucky enough to try it early on. I would never pay £29 let alone £42! According to an inflation calculator, if the price rose by CPI every year the price today would be £14. I used to take the family to London for the day and have fun visiting many attractions, my kids cannot evenafford to travel to London let alone visit attractions.

Liked this one Darren, it was great to see the views from your lens. The prices are a bit eye watering but it is a pretty special attraction. Maybe when it's a hundred years old some marketing boffin will bill it as "world's longest running temporary ferris wheel" 8^) Cheers!

An admirably honest review. :) Mum took me on the Eye when it was new over 20 years ago, there were only around 15 of us in the pod and I spent most of the time pressed up against the glass in awe - mum closed her eyes for half an hour, suffering for my love of engineering. I'm hoping to make it down for Winter Wonderland with one goal - to ride Olympia/Munich Looping a handful of times, as a lover of travelling Schwarzkopf coasters (I rode Drier Looping/Magnum Force around 300 times during its stint at Flamingoland). I'll then be eating baked beans from Lidl into the new year but the spend will be worth it.

Yes it's expensive, Darren. A lot more than it was in 2000. It's stood the test of time seeing that it was meant to be a temporary attraction. You look to be in your early teens when photo'd way back, but then, you're only a young person still now. Interesting to view from way on top of the attraction, and seeing some of the locations of your previous videos.Many thanks for sharing the film.

I remember going on it around 2005 because it was meant to be dismantled shortly after - nearly 20 years later and it's still there! I suppose while the tourists keep paying to go on it they'll keep it around...it definitely wasn't as comparatively expensive when I went on it, I was pretty skint at the time so I doubt it was more than about £15 otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

You go on about the bench being for people afraid of heights, but there are also people that can't be on their feet for the queue + 30 minutes + wherever the next bench outside is, like me. The bench is much more for them, for if you are afraid of heights, you probably won't go on this attraction
@AdventureMe

As a world traveller that’s seen many of these in many cities of the world, no. It’s not worth it at all. None are. It’s just a view. Specially when you can go up in another building for free. And it’s certainly not worth £42 of view.

4 things from “Y2K” Who wants to be a millionaire, the millennium bug, the London eye, and the millennium dome 😂 I didn’t realise how high this thing is Darren, that pod at the highest point is higher than what my drone can legally fly (120m/393ft) I’d love to go on that but not at that cost 😱 I did visit the millennium dome though when that opened. I found it all a bit weird tbh. Thanks Darren for showing us this.

The only way to begin to justify the cost of these tourist traps is to give them a bit of thought beforehand. If you can, try to go at the beginning or end of the peak season so that you get your own pod. Most of all, time your go so that the sun is starting to set so that you get that extra bit of magic in your photos and best of all, it's free!
