An insight into the 1970's music business with Mickie Most and RAK Records broadcast on the London Program on ITV (I Think) in 1975. An interesting look into how it worked selling records and getting a deal in the 70's when it was so different from now with downloads and streams and artists able to release their own records and promote themselves on places like KZbin and streaming platforms.
Unfortunatly this is not the complete program the end bit is missing I'm not sure how long I'm guessing maybe 10 mins (maybe less) I have 4 boxes of discs I purchased of classic TV programs and music programs (including many Top of the Pops) and am working my way through them uploading them to computer and getting them cleaned up, I've got 2 copies of this one and both have the end missing! maybe one day I ill get to upload the whole thing!
Please support us on social media (see below) as we really need to build it up so we can interact and find out what people want to see and look out for our History Chanel coming soon! (also please look at our merch the site will be live again this week after updates and will have a lot of new designs soon)

Mickie most was right - by 1977 the rollers had virtually disappeared. A very interesting insight into the nuts and bolts of the pop industry of mid 70s britain - and of its exploitative nature (poor Mud - never out of the charts in 74 and 75 but only taking home £70 quid a week). Thanks for the upload.

Queen were in the same bracket for a while I grew up in Richmond/Kew and read a few years ago Roger Taylor saying in Classic Rock that they came back from Japan where they had been treated like The Beatles and he went back to his bedsit at 220 Kew Road on £50 a week, tbh I was more amazed I lived in the same area as him in 1974 and never saw him!

@@Iluvthe1960s shocking isnt it. Those of us of a certain look back on this period as a golden age musically - and it was - but alot of the artists themselves were getting ripped off by the record companies left right and centre ☹️

@@LeighRichards27 I was devistated/shocked when Les Passed I worked at a Garden Centre as a manager, picked up an old paper left lying around (about 2 weeks old) and saw he'd died, I couldn't believe he'd gone and I never knew/saw it anywhere! I remember seeing a program about pans people (that I may post soon) where one of them was saying in the 70's the life and soul of every party was Les, Bless him - R.I.P

@@raymondbonington9355 it's dreadful when anyone takes their own life (a family member has tried and thankfully failed) is always sad when someone like Dave Mount or Bob Grant from On The Buses achive such fame that when it goes they just can't handle life (I may be totally wrong here and if I am I'm sorry, it was something that I read) I read that dave was a car salesman (a thankless job I have done) and his family said he couldn't adjust to a 'normal' life after being Top of the Pops, as say it may be wwrong I don't want to say something out of place about someone who's died just what I saw.

Yes pop rock business is brutal at times isn't it , you see successful bands breaking up and unless your the song writer you can find yourself struggling ,

This program coincidentally and uniquely records the very first ever recording or performance of I LOVE ROCK N ROLL in the world, ever. Alan Merrill's song went around the world and is one of the most recognised songs ever via versions by Joan Jett, Britney and others, It finally reached Xmas #1 in the UK via a parody "I Love Sausage Rolls", a charity single in 2019. Arrows made no money out of the song until Britney Spears cover version in 2002 because of the sharp practices of the 1970s/80s detailed here. Mickie Most used people and then threw them away Nevertheless, this footage of Arrows is a treasure of epic proportions
