I took exactly the same train nonstop to Crewe on 5/7/22! Was on time AND SO FAST! Much quicker than past Birmingham - for going on further to Shrewsbury! Had to wait for 1 hour for connection to Shrewsbury! Didn’t matter - Crewe had plenty places with nice cuppa m snacks!! WELL DONE TO UK RAIL - very much on time n fast! VERY FRIENDLY STAFF! Thank U for the video!!

I did this journey on Friday 10th November 2023 and as a wheelchair user I was impressed. 2 hours 40 minutes and Avanti staff were fantastic. I never had any problems using avanti.

The bonus of the Avanti “middle class” is you are able to have the extra leg room at a cheaper price than the old First Class. The lounge at Euston is not really that pleasant and the food on the train, apart from breakfast, was not so great. Therefore not having these is no great loss. However if you do want them the First Class Fare is much more expensive than with Virgin.

Yes I haven’t found many cheap first class fares with Avanti recently, though my trip from Shrewsbury down to London in the Super Voyager wasn’t a bad price I guess and the breakfast was decent enough. Birmingham to London standard premier upgrade the other day was £15. Is it worth it? Maybe for some? I might try Seatfrog again soon and see what their prices are starting at. They used to be fairly decent but not sure what they’re up to atm 🤔

Yes, the trent valley line is the original main line going up to the north west, and still the fastest. In the old days, you went to Paddington, not Euston, to get a train to Birmingham.

The West Coast Main Line has Avanti West Coast, Caledonian Sleeper and London Northwestern Railway. Which is ideal for long commuters travelling to & from Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, North Wales, Birmingham, Coventry, West Midlands and Northampton. And the London Overground Euston-Watford DC Line with the Class 710/3 and Class 378.

On the WCML you can also get Transpennine Express but don’t forget there’s also the East Coast Mainline (which itself is a nice line) with LNER and you’ve also got a bit of competition there from/to London with Lumo. I like both lines tbh. Cheers for the comment 😊👍

Hi James, yes I was surprised to get the ticket for that price I must admit it's not like Avanti to be too generous with their tickets!! I guess it's a mid-afternoon thing and the train was pretty quiet. Euston - well I don't think much to the station tbh compared to the other termini in London. It is outdated, a bit claustrophobic in parts and an expensive place to eat! Things may change with the HS2 development - I'm not sure what those plans are really but fingers crossed it'll improve things. Who knows!?!

Ah that’s life I guess - no bother. Tbh, I don’t normally go via Crewe as you have to go north to go back south which sounds like it won’t work. But with the speed of this train, I reckon if the connection improves I can do London to shrews in just over two hours! That’s not bad considering the round-a-bout route.

I Did This Journey About A Year Ago But Up To Manchester Piccadilly As You Will See On My KZbin Channel It Went Pretty Fast And Arrived In Manchester Piccadilly in 2 Hours and 11 Minutes We Were 6 Minutes Behind Of Schedule But Usually It Would Take 2 Hours And 6 Minutes When Going Via Crewe But Recently Because Of The Timetable Change This Service Now Has A Extra Stop At Stafford So Now It Calls At Stafford, Crewe, Wilmslow, Stockport And Manchester Piccadilly Which Makes The Run A Little Slower But Still Really Fast More Faster Than Driving And Flying If You Have To Wait At The Airport.
