This is classic. The Lone Ranger is from an era when TV was wonderful and the shows were excellent. Western was the thing and people could not get enough of it all. This and other shows like Gunsmoke and The Rifleman were the best. Adults loved them and kids could be kids while living their dreams through such shows. Almost every show back then was good no matter what it was. It really was the golden age of TV. Send me back in time. George Vreeland Hill

This was my great grandfather's favorite show. He had a big television set in his bedroom and would come in every afternoon from his farm/ranch duties to watch it. I remember the long horns above his bed where great grandmother and I would sit and snack on Fritos and homemade clabber while he sat glued to the set. He used to get on to us and tell us between commercials to quit munching so loudly. I was about three years old then. Great memories!

The music used for the opening title of the TV series is the same one that was heard on the radio show from 1940 through '54; George W. Trendle {"Old Cheapo"}, the original owner/producer of the radio and TV versions, used a block of "transcribed" music cues to score both shows, recorded in Mexico. Some of them were reworked "cues" from Republic's "Lone Ranger" movie serials of 1938 and '40, while others were "public domain" classical music passages {i.e. Liszt's "Les Preludes"}.

The music still has it. The best of the themes for kids from the 1950/60's . This is why we all had cap guns ,and played cowboys and Indians . When's the last time you saw kids playing that ! I showed my grandkids my old metal cap guns ,the ones that look real, they loved them.

1998. We stopped doing that when parents decided to be terrified of every other adult all of the time for no good reason and thus keep kids indoors all day. Which, well, it's your fault. You raised our parents after all.

I saw Clayton Moore appear in Portland, Oregon with police escort to a reopening of a theater called The Roseway. I was amazed that the poilce saluted him when he appeared from his limo. Lone Ranger shows were played that day at the theater.

I went to a reopening of an old theater in Portland, Oregon which had Clayton Moore as the Lone Range with LR movies. When Clayton Moore came to the theater in a white limo, he had a police escort. Just before he came out of the limo, there was a police line ready to salute him and the reverse when he left. I felt privalaged to see and shake Moore`s hand.

My little nephew just a few years ago when he was a baby loved watching the Lone Ranger and usually went to sleep by the end of it. I agree they need to bring this kind of television back....today's shows have too much immorals and try teaching the wrong kind of values. Give me the days of the singing cowboys and "High O' Silver Away!"

Interesting, that theme. When I was a kid, my mother was a studio musician. She said that all the great musicians worked the studios for the extra money. And when you listen to the theme -- as cut up as it is, you definitely hear two things. First, the sloppy trumpet/french horn work from the begnning of the last movement. Then, the lightening fast, perfect orchestra running through the rest -- chopped up, of course. All in all, a mess. But hey, we were kids.

For 2009. he's got two movies that are finished:'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' and 'Public Enemies'. He's currently filming 'Alice in Wonderland' and probably after that 'Pirates 4'. In between there is room for new Batman but producers must hurry because he will not be available when Pirates team and script are selected and finished.

Jay SIlverheels was a Mohawk, but in the show he was portraying a member of the Potowatomie Nation. In that native language the name Tonto was supposed to refer to a "wild one." The reel Jay was quite a real life character. An outstanding athlete, particularly in Lacrosse - he also did some professional boxing.

It was on the radio before TV, along with many other programs. I know, I used to listen to them at night on a old RCA radio before we got a TV. I think it was better on the radio because you could turn off the lights and make your own pictures. The last radio program I remember was Jonny Dollar. After it was taken off the radio in the late 1960s, that was the end. No more.

To auspete. I am a 60-yr.-old man who grew up watching the Lone Ranger AND I am also an animal rights advocate. Both sides could be please by simply putting earplugs in Silver's ears (which they probably did anyway). Horses have a very keen sense of hearing (I am a riding instructor and stable owner in Texas). Most animal rights folks are not as extreme as you think. Have a great day!

you see The Lone Ranger is The Green Hornet's great-uncle- Britt Reid's father was Dan Reid Jr son of TLR's brother who was killed at Grant's Pass with the others and Dan Reid often appeared on the show, going into town and getting a job at local newspaper to find out the lowdown they've changed all that for the new movie opening this week and have lost part of a great legend

@EnvyHK Maybe he was shooting at Butch Cavendish. Who is Butch Cavendish? Well he is the character in the pilot, who by his dastardly deeds created the Lone Ranger. Now a piece of trivia. The actor who played Butch Cavendish also played a part in the 1938 or '39 movie of the Lone Ranger. Yes there was a series made for theater before the 1949 TV series.
