I’ve heard of him; I had to read The Gift of the Magi in high school. Didn’t know his real name or how he died. Thanks for the post.

Nice, informative presentation.O. Henry stories were part of Lit. curriculum in my high school my Junior year.I enjoyed all of his short stories that were assigned reading. The setting of "The Ransom of Red Chief" is in my native State. The name of the fictitious town that the story takes place in is very similar to an actual town in a County that borders mine.I believe that the fictitious town,Summit,Alabama may be in reference to the small town of Sumiton,Alabama.Mr. Porter was a gifted writer. It's sad that he died so young.

I am from Greensboro, the local history museum has or had a diorama of the pharmacy he worked in. Well known in the area.

I have never heard of him. But I was ready to go to the store and buy a candy bar in support of him. I thought he was the man that made the candy bar. 🍫

Yes, I've heard of O. Henry and knew his real name. I did not know he was from North Carolina. Once again learned something new.😊

Yes I have heard of him and have read some of his work. I think turning himself in and taking care of his wife was a good thing. It showed he really did care for her. I'm a avid reader and I love reading true history. I was wondering when you said his name was it the same guy.👍 thanks for telling this. Many have either forgotten or never heard of him. Neita. 🙂👋👣.

As soon as I heard O Henry I thought it was going to be about a candy maker with that name. I have a BA in English and never heard of him. Never came across his work. Lots of authors have written from prison. Thanks for sharing about him. I'll have to read some of his work.

I knew about O Henry because of a video that I l did on the outlaw Al Jennings. The two of them met in prison at Leavenworth and one of Henry’s first short stories was called Robbing a Train based on the stories he heard from Jennings in prison. Thought you might like to know.
