The ending silent acted last moments of the film is one of the most remarkable performances from Bob Hoskins.

It was very touching Barry's obvious love and friendship towards Bob Hoskins and the sadness of his passing.

No AJ, what you fail to realise is that it is a classic. A remarkable snapshot of London on the cusp of change from the 1970's derelict and strike plagued decline, to a 1980's Thatcherite capitalist revival. At the loss of working class communities and a growth in globalism. It depicts the very end of a past London, but remains as vital and entertaining now as it was then. And the music utterly captures the vibe too.

It also accurately depicts how grim London actually was back then, and specifically how riddled with crime and corruption it was.

I have terrible facial recognition ability!. . . really terrible. But I have an excellent ability to recognize "voice". When I first heard Paul Barber, in TLGF, it nearly drove me crazy trying to remember where I had heard that voice. It took 24 hours of intrusive memory flash backs trying to remember who owned that voice. Then I remembered!! He (Paul Barber) was Horse in "The Full Monty". Now I could go to sleep.

Trivia - Bob Hoskins sings a reggae song for the film - "Let Out" - which can be heard playing clearly from the car radio as he threatens the locals looking for Paul Barber's character. Not a lot of people know that. I do...

The film was indeed prophetic. A lot of the money from the notorious Brinks Matt robbery ended up being laundered in redevelopment of London's docklands. Also, as we've found out in things like the Daniel Morgan murder inquiry, London was absolutely riddled with serious corruption, racism, vice and crime during that period.

Daniel Morgan was long after though. However, i agree with your take on the change of London...and the rotten corruption.

Daniel Morgan's murder was 1987. It was not "long after".

WHEN has London NOT been the centre of crime, vice, corruption and racism? It's a city. It's a capital city. There will never be a time when it doesn't have a dark underbelly

Hes actually not. Danny Leigh a great film critic and unlike most hosts who try and take over and be the 'Star' he allows the guests to speak.

Shame the interviewer is set on going over the same questions and points that previous interviewers have. Typical BFI - presuming people are dumb and taking a very pedestrian stance....love the LGF but didn't learn much new here.

The BFI are not worth their salt. I had this film long before you, and you don't even realise the version you promote is inaccurate. You've also placed Herzog's Nosferatu (dubbed) lol, as a prime pick. Is this a mockery? More evidential of amateurs.
@BillReilly1979
@BillReilly1979 3 жыл бұрын
Your opinions are all generic. You have no real insight - and never have. Nosferatu is proof of this. Lol. Sonatine, Violent Cop, Hani-Bi? And? I had the Japanese releases at the time. I set the premise, and I could beat you all at once. Sharpen up.
