WOW! Amazing bird! Glad you sent the message out there at end that people should wait until the local communities are more comfortable with people coming into their area to view this magnificent creature.

indeed, it is relatively public info a while ago so hopefully this video will help to slow down the avalanche of birders...

Your smile hearing them for the first time was epic! I smiled with you buddy! I also loved how you concluded with DON"T show up. WAIT! With all of the talk and excitement it's nail biting not to pack my camera bag and say let's go. I'll be back in Colombia in May and I was so hopeful to witness this stunner. But I know the importance of waiting and allowing a well planned course for the people, birds and environment. Congrats buddy on yet anther amazing find! Makes my heart flutter and can't wait to see this beauty in person one day soon.

indeed Anthony mate, these processes take time, and when indigenous communities are involved, longer no doubt... hopefully all visiting birders like you are going to wait and local Colombian guides also... good luck in Venezuela mate!!

Great news Diego! So - It probably will be some time before this Sabrewing will be allowed to be listed in the All Colombia bird pack for the eBird Merlin app. Just as well not to get us too excited yet 👀 Much appreciated to get an early look at this beauty 👏 👍 Ken

guess they didn't even care as it was GONE, but probably for next update they will include it... now is classified as SENSITIVE on eBird so specific localities are hidden ... for a while... hopefully local communities will figure out a way to handle this...

Right. I noticed it missing as I just entered Sabrewing to quickly see how many species are listed in the country. It will eventually be helpful to have the standard entry on Merlin so people can appreciate and learn about it and playback its sounds. It’s surprisingly loud.
