My favorite song by this great, great band. From State of Our Union.

I saw Sid Griffin in a supermarket in London in the early 2000's. He had almost the same haircut as his LR days. I fanboid from a respectful distance.

This song could easily be an R.E.M hit. The influence is undeniable.

Are you saying that R.E.M were influenced by the Long Ryders? I'm not sure about that. The bands were contemporaries of one another. I think that the similarities in their sound are due to both bands sharing an appreciation for '60s guitar music, rather than one being influenced overtly by the other. Lyrically, R.E.M were quite different to the Long Ryders, who took a more conventional approach to songwriting.

I guess they sometimes sound a bit similiar (although I havent thought about it). Anyways, The Long Ryders are waaaaay superior to R.E.M. Guided By Voices also sounded a bit like R.E.M every now and then, only much better, like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGeWnJt9erJjZtk

I love this band! They are great musicians but they also know their history. Here they sound a bit like the Byrds but they are more raucous.
