Condensed milk is very good to take on a picnic or camping or when on a long drive where you can stop to make a cup of tea. I normally put it in a clean empty glass jam jar from the tin so that it is easy to use when out, less messy and one keep the amount not used safe with the jam jar lid secured.

Ah heck, this really ties in to my love of old mines and ghost towns. Here in the western desert, to this day old mines from the gold rush still have large piles of rusty "solder seal" milk cans. They are identified by two small round holes on the lid. Hand me down history says miners lived on canned milk, canned peaches and dry beans. Spent my entire life wondering why condensed milk was such a main staple. Now it makes sense. Very cool.

I wish I'd had a history teacher like you! I actually would have learned some history. First time I've seen a video of yours. I'm subscribing now. So once they opened the can, what did they do so they could transport it without it spilling out and making a mess? Where I live the ants would find that in no time if I left it out. My fridge is like an ant-safe... the only place safe from ants.

Thank you for the support! In the field if they did not eat it completely in one sitting they would have likely used a glass or tin container to keep it but most likely would have ate it and shared it in various uses.

Mix 14 oz. of condensed sweet milk, a cup of blue, rasp, or mulberries, 2 tsp lemon juice in a blender (or vegetable chopper if you want to be authentic) pour into a pie crust, and stick it in the freezer (or on a block of ice or front porch if it's winter) for an hour. Been passed down in my family since the 1800's. It's still ALWAYS the first dessert to disappear during holidays. If you want to be really fat, top it with heavy cream mixed with sugar and whatever berry you decide to use.

It is a custom canteen made for me by Axel Ulrich Tin Smith using an original zinc spout and cap from New Old Stock he had. I needed a large capacity canteen for when I worked as a historical farmer on Slate Run Living History farm.
