It says sweetened condensed milk on the can. My mom and grandma used this stuff in deserts except my mom did use it with chicken gizzards, she'd pour a can of sweetened condensed milk in the crock pot and had a pound of chicken gizzards to it and let it cook for 6 hours then she'd serve it over mashed potatoes. It was sweet but it tasted really good.

you can add sugar, and evaporate some of the extra moisture content to convert evaporated milk into the sweetened condensed. I find that the sweeter version keeps in the freezer better, and it can be scooped from frozen like ice cream for coffee^^

@@danip3270 I like to use a 1part sugar to 2parts of the evaporated milk. simmer and stir over low heat until its reduced by slightly more then half volume. you may also notice a color change in the milk, you want toasty not burn^^

I've been using both milks, for the past 65 years, so I know exactly which is which! I would like to share a very simple recipe. It's a drink that I've always made. Ingredients are: 1 bottle of guinness. 1 can of evaporated milk. 1/3 can of condensed milk. Directions: Mix the above well, taste, and if you prefer it sweeter, add some more condensed milk. Place into the refrigerator to chilled before serving. I sometimes whisked 1 egg and add it to the mixture, but with or without egg, it's very delicious! You’ll want to keep drinking this nonstop!

What is done to milk, other than adding sugar, to make condensed milk? Is it made into evapotaed milk first? "Condensed" sounds like it means that the same starting amount is boiled / evaporated for longer than for evaporated milk. Is that the case?

Thank you so much because I have 4,5 cans and not knowing what their used for,I haven’t baked sence I was 13 years old a chocolate cake for a school activity.and the person who won the cake playing musical chair said the next day at school that the cake was good who baked it my mom.I only bake make corn bread can I use condensed milk for cornbread or no,I always used carnations milk,but never known anything about sweetened condensed milk.but I do have a few cans,must of been given to me at some time.but thank you .& I enjoyed watching 👌

Before baby formula, babies were given evaporated milk mixed with equal water, if they weren't being nursed. It used to be kinda cheap. Not so much now.

I have a recipe that calls for 400mls of condensed milk. My can only has 300mls. I do have a can of evaporated milk. Can I top up my 300mls of condensed with 100mls of evaporated to get 400mls? This is for a banana bread. I don't think it will make a difference (maybe just less sweet), but wondering what others would think.

Condensed milk is just unpalatable how it is sweet. So sickly sweet and uneatable. I can eat the whole bar of 100% cacao dark chocolate in one sitting. But, I couldn't take even one spoon of condensed milk (because it tastes sickeningly sweet). I would probably vomit from that sweetness. Condensed milk can contain 70-80g of sugar per 100g (or 100ml).
