I did a 2-up + lots of gear 3850 km tour on my 2019 FJR1300 this summer and it averaged 22.5 km/L = 4.44 L/100 km / 63.5 imperial mpg which with its 25 litre tank gives a theoretical range of 562 km / 349 miles per tankful.

Impressive, but not a really well known bike and you need to ride very efficient in the right conditions to reach that 50km per liter. In reality you are looking at 35km per liter at least so that would mean minimum 700km range. So I'd say 800km out of every full tank is reasonable, it's a 125cc so you need to give it throttle to actually move forward... Also for a normal 125cc street bike I'd rev the shit out of it to get those 15hp as often as possible and not care too much about fuel like I do with my Suzuki GSX-R125. It ain't exactly a problem refueling a 125cc, you'll likely not ride it empty in one trip, and if you are you'll find a gas station since you are on the street, so 20l tank is adding a good amount of weight to a weak bike.

@@eirikaustad7580 agree, ~700km. Also, they even do not paying attention to the tank volume in their ad video on the site. I guess, most likely, it's just styling feature - bulky tank.

The conversion between consumption units is simple but not one that most would be able to compute accurately in their heads! Divide either consumption figure (l/110km or mpg [UK gallon]) into 282. (Actually 282.481. Use 235 for US gallon [actually 235.215]). eg. given 5l/100km consumption. 282/5 = 56.4mpg. And back again: 282/56.4 = 5l/100km.

My air-cooled Honda CB350 in India (sold as GB350 in Japan) has a 15L usable tank and returns 42kmpl regularly when touring (I keep it cruising at 80-90kmph, this being India). 600+ km range. Considering the Triumph Scrambler 400x, for next year when it comes out, for a bit more power.

Let's compare the range calculating on the engine displacement... here we have 125cc compared to 1250cc, and it's OK, but what if we compare, for example, bikes from 1000cc to 1200cc (more or less, you decide, of course), that have the same function, I mean, adventure with adventure, naked with naked, tourism with tourism, and so on. I would think that can be interesting. Thanks for the video Motobob.

I'd like the real world fuel economy figures from your previous videos v claimed for the bikes on this list. It would be of interest if you can do a real world fuel economy leader board (similar to Top Gears fastest lap board) for the best to worst fuel economy for each class of bike. So after you do a review, you can also at the end place the real world economy as a comparison. That would be awesome. Thanks.

Great video, Bob. In my years on bikes it seems that, unlike cars, manufacturers’ claims on fuel consumption can be bettered by a decent margin. My 1200GSA LC was capable of a real world 67mpg, my ATAS DCT ES a bit less and my KTM 890 over 70. It’s worth doing some real world testing to see what’s possible which might help in this anti-car/bike world where the eco zealots seem to rule the roost. Cheers, Ian
