Random thing I’m curious about, as someone who hasn’t been able to get this game myself - do Counters have any special properties when the start of a combo, like Counter Hits are in SF6 and Guilty Gear for example. Thinking in terms of, is an anti-air combo starter any different if it actually intercepts, for example, a Superdash.

nah they don't do anything if I remember right. it just means the opponent got hit in start up which yknow is a counter but nothing special happens but the text and announcer

A counter hit typically occurs when you hit an opponent who is in the startup of their attack. On hit, the announcer will say "Counter" along with a HUD message, the attacker will gain 50% more Ki on that attack only, and there is no additional benefit to counter hits compared to normal hits. All attacks are in counter hit state during their startup and active frames only, but there are some exceptions with counter hit state during their recoveries. -- Above from Dustloops DBFZ section on attack attributes. Seems like its been this way since launch. I guess it might be impactful if its a counterhit with high meter gain... I wonder how it works with multi hit moves? Otherwise, seems like barely anything.
