If they question you about hidden city ticketing, you can always tell them that you had a life threatening medical emergency during your layover and had to go to the emergency room which caused you to missed your next flight. They are not allowed to ask for and require any proof of the visit because doing so would be a violation of HIPAA.

CariagaXIII This is worthless news from any news source. The first segment is about unethical behavior; the latter not, but only worthy of a side note story when all other important issues have been presented, AND there is extra time to fill.
@intesx7 жыл бұрын
I think "unethical" may be a bit of a stretch. Unethical implies some sort of harm, of which there is none here. Considering airlines overbook all flights, knowing some people won't show up for their flight, I don't see any downside for the airline. (They keep the money and some poor soul actually gets where they're going on time.) And I don't see any harm to the consumer. (They save money and get to where they needed.)
@LokiDWolf7 жыл бұрын
Unethical? I don't think you know what that means. Also, CNN does report things that are important. Everything on a news station doesn't have to be important issues. Jeez.

If you pay $200 for a plane ticket and save $100, now I can afford a hotel for 1 night plus dinner and I have a small weekend trip that boosts the airlines profits. If im charged the full $300 then im staying home and watching movies and not using the airline at all.

I once needed a flight from Panama City, Panama to Houston tx. one way direct was about $800. I thought that was pretty crazy. I started checking other places to go on vacation. I checked Panama City to Miami. flight was about $300, but I realized there was an option that allowed for a layover in Houston (the place I really wanted to visit) it was the same flight that costs $800 (same airline, same date, same flight). I booked the flight to Miami with the layover in Houston, arrived in Houston, picked up my bags (it was an international flight, you have to pick up your bags before you go thru customs and recheck them) and never got on the flight to Miami. we are a family of 4 so we saved about $1000. The biggest risk was if there was any weather/delays and the airline had to find a different flight for us they would have flown us to Miami.

Happens here in Australia too. I had to go from Perth to Melbourne once and the fare to Canberra via Melbourne was cheaper. So in Melbourne I just 'missed' the flight to Canberra.
@TheMrTTT7 жыл бұрын
This was once called an "open jaw" flight in the 1970s and 1980s. Believe it or not IDs weren't checked back then and most tickets were fully refundable. In the example in the video, when you get off the plane in Los Angeles, you could go to the gate departing for San Diego and sell your Dan Diego leg ( for $100 for example) to someone San Diego bound walking up to the gate. You pocket the $100, they submitted their original ticket for a refund. Lots of people did it. When the chance to start checking IDs opened up the airlines were thrilled to pounce on it. Ended the practice that day.

It’s usually cheaper to fly into LAX sometimes its cheaper to fly into San Diego. Either place you fly into you can either fly into San Diego and pay a few dollars and take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner to LA or fly in to LA and take the Amtrak to San Diego. Thats also a cost saving idea which Ive done many times.
@jslasher17 жыл бұрын
When I was employed by TW this was referred to as the 'point beyond' or 'hidden point'. It was cheaper to fly from SDF to MKE than to either CHI airport, the ticket fare structure read SDF/MKE.

The reason people to do this is of course save money, but I think there is also the annoyance that the airlines are not billing passengers on a basis of the cost of the flight, but rather the popularity of the destination, for whatever reason. Back in the 80s there was a flight from Dallas, to St Louis via Memphis. The fare to Memphis was about a hundred dollars more, even though it was the first stop on the flight.
@asherael7 жыл бұрын
Great! I hope it's as unpleasant for the airlines as they've made flying for customers. I've no sympathy their rip-off alorhythm's been compromised. Maybe losing their massive advantage over the consumer will push them to, in some way, make air-travel less horrible.
@jakecosenza697 жыл бұрын

If you buy a ticket to a city you skip out on, how do you fly round trip? Do you book a separate return ticket from the city you actually intended to go to? Or do you try to hop on in the middle of a journey, the same way you hopped off? I feel like TSA wouldn't allow that...
@faizanjoyia7 жыл бұрын
Why are one way overseas travel more expensive then round trip
@mckenziemcmillan23247 жыл бұрын
faizan joyia airlines incentivise travellers to book round trip tickets.....so they make one ways way more expensive. I recommend you utilize a travel agent as they can sometimes get better one way rates through wholesaler providers that public can't
@SaintDuma7 жыл бұрын
Book the round trip and just don't fly the return. As long as you don't do it too often, you could even get a partial refund (or credit with the airline) for the unused portion, if you cancel a few days in advance of your scheduled return flight.

a friend and I took a trip from B'ham to Houston & skipped the 2nd leg of the trip to New Orleans cause we just wanted to vacation in Houston. Strangely enough a big storm came into the area as we landed in Houston & the 2nd leg was cancelled by the airline. My friend was refunded a great deal of our tickets because of this resulting in us getting a very cheap flight to exactly where we wanted to go. Yay us!
@duyanamelania7 жыл бұрын
Big thing he fails to mention in hidden city ticketing...if something happens to a flight, the airline will reroute you to your final destination via a different city....then what do you do? ex. buy a hidden city ticket to NYC but adding a leg to Bermuda...then the flight from NYC to Bermuda cancels and you find yourself going to MIA to Bermuda.
