I know this comment is long, but hear me out. One way they can make the rewards system better is, you win one game, you get 1 or 2 uncommons, and you can choose to take it or continue to get better rewards. But they’d have to have a certain number of games won to get better rewards, like they’d have to win 10 games to get a epic item. But legendaries would be much harder, like you’d have to win 3 games in a row to get a legendary. Basically, if you won 2 games in a row and you lost the next one, the legendary progress would be reset, but the wins you had before would still count towards getting low rarity items. One cool thing they could do with this system was show the progress you had towards getting an item and what item you’d be getting if you accepted it, and if you wanted something else, you could randomly swap it, but the progress you currently had would be reset. Obviously, there’d have to be like a number of times you could reset it because it’d be too broken, so like 1 reset every 8 hours. That’s pretty much my idea, it’s basically like a “Double or nothing” kinda thing. My list for each rarity per game would be something like: Common (basically voice lines): You just get them for every 5 hours played Uncommon: Win 1 game Rare: Win 5 games Epic: Win 10 games Legendary: Win 3 games in a row Though I do miss Lootboxes though. Either they bring back lootboxes or just take an idea like mine.

I've always had the opinion of they should bring back lootboxes but make it so that some items you just can't get in there. Like make it so mythic skins can only be gotten in the battlepass. That way people can be happy about getting stuff for free but some will still spend 10$ on the game for the battlepass. They could make everything that is in battlepass not show up in lootboxes so people might feel more happy spending money on the game if it doesn't feel like spending money is the ONLY way to get anything good such as legendary skins.

THe problem is, before you COULD unlock everything by just playing the game but could pay if you wanted it faster. While with this battle pass almost none of it is free at all and the new characters are literally being in the second half of the battlepass. Let battle pass users unlock things faster and or have a few special items only they can get, but keeping every single item behind the paywall is pissing everone off.

I just want to have a feeling of progression, of earning stuff as we go. I payed for OW1 and got a nice steady trickle of cosmetics. I payed for Rocket League's battlepass years ago, and am still getting coins and cosmetics from it. Why can't overwatch have a battlepass that works like literally every other battlepass and allow you to earn back your investment in it? I refuse to pay for overwatch's battlepass without a reasonable way to re earn it. 60 coins a week... Insultingly little.

The problem with adding lootboxes back in is that laws are slowly rolling out in various countries banning loot boxes or making them commercially unviable for many games, as they are being legally defined as gambling. For example Australia is currently going through the process of banning paid loot boxes in any game marketed to anyone under the age of 18. Which means any games with loot boxes will be essentially deemed as R rated. Another game that has moved ahead in this trend is Brawl Stars which recently removed it's lootboxes. It seems that the future of loot boxes is looking bleak so I understand the decision to remove them in both this sense as well as in a commercial sense

I feel like the biggest thing about the loot boxes for me was that it was something to actually chase after while playing the game. Sure, the game is fun to play with friends, but there isn't really any goals aside from grinding the battle pass. If there isn't anything you want from the pass then there's no real reason to play because the in-game currencies you get from other sources are non-existent.

Personnaly, I thought that lootbox are not the first things to bring back. Levels, medals at games, the ending screen where you can vote for the best players, and the prime time are the things that I miss the most. In OW 1, it was a pleasure to level up, now it's just for stuff that are not interesting since 90% or more are not for the character you'll play. Overwatch 2 is a great game, but the passage to free 2 play is catastrophic and it really destroy the pleasure to play it.

The loot box system is designed to exploit those with a gambling a problem and is also a shit system. Don't let the current horrible state of this system fool you into thinking the old one was good. With need a completely new system. The only good part about loot boxes is it gave us a semi reliable way to earn stuff by playing. Honestly its a depressing statement on the current state of gaming when people are demanding loot boxes. It was considered a low point in gaming in 2016. To me demanding them back is the sign we are losing. The bar has been set so low they have us demanding the lesser of two evils. The lesser of 2 exploitive systems.

battlepass isnt even that bad of a system, its mostly that overwatch has a shitty one. with battle pass you know what youre buying, you can get it anytime even after finishing it in the same season, and if it were like in other games youd get resources for the next battle pass or ways to choose at least one cosmetic item you want.

@Laky for me, there are 5 issues to fix with this system: 1) Heroes in the battle pass 2) The battle pass is bloated with sprays and voice lines and has very little to offer players actually want. Most heroes will get nothing of value 3) Shop prices are way too high 4) There is no realistic way to earn new items from game play. 5) Lack of any real excitement around events because of this

What about we keep both systems in place but make changes to them. What about returning lootboxes but the only way to get them is by time played in the game or quests, but also keeping the system where you can still outright buy cosmetics so they still get their money. I don't know how I feel about battle passes though. Maybe that can stay and the rewards you get from it aren't obtainable through direct purchase or the lootbox system I suggested earlier. idk this seems dumb. lower the income of the devs to make a better game doesnt really line up. Lootboxes were always broken anyways and you still had to buy coins once you started getting repeats to MAYBE get new skins. yall will never be satisfied. just do the battlepass and move on. a subscription service like $10 and free skins or fair lootboxes is more reasonable.

Let's hope that the "changes to rewards"in season 3 is the return of lootboxes with each level. I believe that was mentioned recently, could be wrong.
