Does anyone else ever think as they listen to this, that if so many of the people with anger, hurt and disappointment in this world who channel all their energy into wrong and destructive things, listened to this, that the thing that underpins us all - to love and be loved - would be revealed to them, more than any therapist or self-help book could achieve, and they might actually feel some healing. I haven’t articulated it so well here (as I find it hard to do so) but I feel this quite strongly. So many people are looking for fundamental love and acceptance and when I hear this, it just completely envelops me.

I used to teach in High School (Indonesia). I once proposed to my principal that the students who were problematic be sent to the choir practice for the whole year. Although some didn't change their ways after the project, most were reported to have demonstrated at least a slight change of behavior. And to some of them, it really had a lasting impact. That was probably one of the hallmarks of my entire life.. I was inspired by the movie Les Choristes

Your articulation is fine! I use thiis piece daily as a blessing for myself, on awakening. Music, song is one of the sweetest,most powerful gift from God. It is a fast channel to our spiritual self and the other side of life. (Btw, I used to ask that question about John Rutter, then I heard he was recognized for his great work with some title. Must seek that out.)

Healing, yes. And we do well to recognize how often we can return to this "musical medicine" --- daily, weekly...There's no ON/OFF button with healing; it's a process.

This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard of had the honor of singing. In college choir we closed out every performance with this piece.

I also cannot fathom out why a sportsperson with a paltry 5-10 year career can be knighted for winning a medal, while this national (and international) treasure still waits in the wings ............... a sad indictment on the world's priorities.

When I was a freshman in college I had orchestra practice in the same room that the choir rehearsed. We were always there early because there was always a rush to set up. The choir always ended with this song. It was my first introduction to choral music. The first time I heard them sing it I thought that's what heaven must sound like. It still moves my heart to hear it.

Early on, his compositions were sadly NOT very well liked by some conductors/singers. "Eccentric" being the word most often used. Those peoples' names will never be remembered by history. Rutter's name most certainly will be!

This choir actually seems to believe their music, vs. Certain Other Choirs'. Rutter's music is so blessed! He got my dad who claimed he could only sing "four notes" at the deep-base end to join a choir for twenty years before his nerve disease overtook in his 90's after I recorded Rutter's recordings for my beloved parents' cassette tape player (my parents are the beloved, but that cassette player did blast a lot of great music over the years!).

+Grell Sutcliffe I was touched very deeply by your comment. I too enjoy this song. I sung and hummed it several times today already. Have you ever read the book Great Controversy by E.G.White. It reads about the conflict between good and evil through the ages. You may find it very interesting. You should be able to listen to it or read it online free. Please let us know if you've read it.
@grellsutcliffe76378 жыл бұрын
I have yet to read it, and it is not quite in my reading list yet, but I might take a look at it. (Right now I mainly want to read Death Note novels, Hamlet and Macbeth, but this might be another one of my goals). I sure do hope that I will understand everything in this book, though, as I am not native English speaker.
@MsViva7108 жыл бұрын
+Grell Sutcliffe Well the book I mentioned is written in several languages and you may be able to find it in your native tongue. I don't know what language you speak though. another lovely book by E.G. White is entitled : Desire of Ages.
