Great video! I love your reviews. I know the most scholarly or academic evangelical commentary on the Psalms including Psa 23 is Ross Allen's 3-volume commentary. I also greatly appreciate Bruce Waltke's series of books on various Psalms. But personally speaking, I think I most love J. Alec Motyer's commentary on the Psalms including Psa 23 in the New Bible Commentary as well as his Psalms by the Day (and like Waltke, Motyer has published books on various Psalms which are edifying to read too). Last but not least, The Lord our Shepherd by Douglas MacMillan is more of an autobiography, but in a sense it is thematically about Psa 23 as well. That is also a very moving book to me! 😊

Thanks to your review, I picked up The Lord of Psalm 23 and read it. I loved it! You're absolutely right, it's amazing! I think it is the best popular introduction to Psalm 23 I've ever read. Far better than A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23, which is a good book, and Gibson cites it here and there, but still The Lord of Psalm 23 will now be my new go to for Psalm 23. If I could afford it, and if they'd want it, I'd buy all my friends a copy and give it to them - that's how much I love it. Also I appreciate that Gibson frames Psalm 23 around Motyer's commentary on Psalm 23 in the New Bible Commentary - which, as I mentioned in another comment here, is my personal favorite commentary on the Psalms. As well, thanks again to your video, I'm on something of a David Gibson adventure now. I'll read his Living Life Backwards on Ecclesiastes soon. I noticed he's the main pastor at Trinity Church in Aberdeen, Scotland, and as such has a host of sermons on their website that I may have to listen to as I have time. Not to mention one of my favorite historical theologians and pastors, Sinclair Ferguson, is a member at the church, as Ferguson notes in the foreword to this book. Thanks again for your video! 😊

Thanks for this encouraging comment! You also might want to check out Radically Whole by Gibson once you finish his book on Ecclesiastes. Radically Whole is his book on James.
