Alot of people bash on this game compared to it's movie counterpart video game titles done by EA Games. Now obviously that's not the best comparison since this game came out before the movies were in Theaters. Gameplay wise it definitely pales in comparison with repetitive combat and frustrating game mechanics. However, for Tolkien fans, it was immensely deep in the Middle Earth Lore, followed the books more closely, and really gave me the feel that I was playing a game that was very much trying to immerse the player like they were in the book. I'll never forget how terrified I was in the early levels trying to avoid the ring wraiths. Anyway, sad the sequel got canceled but this game will always have a place in my heart.

This game had unbalanced and unforgiving lvl design. It should have made the game bad and it got mediocre reviews and reception if I remember correctly. But for me these flaws made it into some sort of Dark/Demon souls mixed with old school Legend of Zelda. I played this game sooooo much. Hours and hours and hours. I loved that it followed the book instead of the movie. I spent hours in the Shire diligently picking mushrooms. I knew where every single mushroom in the game is, I swear. The spiders and barrow downs use to the creep me the fuck out. Having to find Merry and Pippin in the Old Forest, which changed and moved around as you explored it. Tom and Goldberry and finding the water lilies. Finally getting to play as Gandalf and his spells was amazing. The endless maze of Moria drove me crazy. I think I seriously played this religiously from 12-14.
